This one is real strange! I have never experianced this problem before with a printer. Just purchased the HP J6480, had hp tech support walk me thru installation. They had me connect hard wired (my preference) to the router. Everything seemed to install fine & all features were working. However, after lggging out of certain programs the next morning those programs logged back in automaticly? Found out they never logged off, as well as other clicking on programs deisplays hung and were grayed out. Uninstalled the HP softwear & everything returned to normal?????????
Call HP tech support they had me install the software from web site, same thing happened????? Anyone else experiancing this problem with the software?? or know why this is happening?? Don't want to return it but I see no other alternative. I have a Dell XPS that I have partitianed and running XP Pro & Vista. The install was on the XP pro side.
Does the XP Pro side on the computer use IE7?
Ran IE7 when it first came out.
Programs disabled,
HP PhotoSmart Camera Program
Motorola Phone Tool
Trend Micro Anti-spyware for the web
AVG Anti-spyware (error on updates)
just to name a few.
Un-installed IE 7 and all the programs now function again.
Coincidence or not?
Rick
Yes I'm running IE 7, have had no problems. as a mater of fact, lap came with Vista, nothing but uninstalls & reinstalls until out of desperation to get XP Pro I found I could add a new Hard Drive, partitian it and use both. Running sweet now! until I installed the HP printer software. Now that I uninstall that it's back to normal again.
Hope I answered your question, still looking to resolve the printer problem though.
try uninstalling IE7. Start, control panel, add/remove programs, show updates, uninstall.
You get the message saying that these programs were installed and may not work properly. Click ok. After you restart, you'll have IE 6 back.
Now try installing the printer and see if everything works. If it does, then it's IE7 related. If it doesn'e work still, then go to Windows Updates and click on custom. You'll be able to install IE7 again.
Is this printer using wireless?
Does your wireless router have these settings?
Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.
Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)
Use WPA Security. Most wireless devices work best with this type of security.
Mixed b and g mode(n if available)
Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.
Save and exit. Power everything off for 30 seconds. Power everything back on, wait 30 seconds, now try to connect.

Don't believe it's the IE 7 causing the problem, When I uninstalled the HP software there was 3 programs on it that well should we say is spyware?, lol. they link directly to HP - help-shopping and tracking daaaaaaa! The software also added a tab onto IE for editing pages you want to print???? Just to much techy for the normal printing operations.
The router is not wireless. But they instructed me to install it that way anyway instead of USB to the lap. I figured it would be ok as I could than use it as networking as the router is split between 2 rooms for when I change rooms using the lap. Never seemed a need to change the router as it's been working flawlesly for years that way.
I use avast, for my anti-virus program been running it for 4-5 years never a problem and never a virus. Never have to disable it to install any programs either.
P.S. Home version is Free and performs the same as the professional version. You can get the download on C/net.
So I'm familiar with it. I never had to disable it either.
Rick
It did disable the Magic Jelly Bean Key finder. I had to disable Avast to run it.
Rick
Not familair with Magic Jelly Bean Key finder? But I know tech support for HP had me disable avast & MS firewall to install, so I guess that tells you something, lol.
And some add-ons to IE7. The common fix is to uninstall IE7 but you can try disabling all IE 7 addins (these are called BHOs) for a test. The IE 7 issue is annoying, well known and we all wish HP would issue a new install software.

Thanks guys for your suggestions, Well if it's IE7 causing the problem I'm not sure if I will keep the printer than. I don't have any add-ins except for yahoo to IE and run Mozilla, but my trading platform is set to IE and that was the one causing the most concern not logging out. Not about to disable them. I'm not that techy and I had an IT guy configure the new hard drive and add my programs, so I'm not about to fool around with his configurations on a fact finding mission. Will opt for a simpler printer than. Thanks all for your help and suggestion.
Just wondering if you ever got your problem corrected. Would love to keep this printer, but won't be able to with current locking up issues.
