Coding & scripting: best text editor for use on a mac ?

best text editor for use on a mac ?

I asked this over in the mac software forums but got no answer.

In the past... I have used MI 2.1.6 which is a free text editor but poorly documented and unsupported for a few years now . Looking around on the net, I found this article... http://mac360.com/index.php/mac360/comments/faceoff_which_is_the_best_text_editor_ever/ which advises about several different programs but I was also looking for some user advice.

I'm a beginner web developer, teaching myself. I know some of the basics but thought one way of learning more would be to look at the source code for different web pages I liked. View the source code, then copy and paste into an editor to make it easier to study how it is put together. MI will highlight tags if you tell it to, but as I said, the documentation on how to use it is not there so I thought to look for a better documented program.

Am I on the right track ? Any advice ? Any favorites that are easy to use ? Not looking to steal anyone's code. Just looking to learn.
