Should be noted

An iMac is made from laptop components, and hence it's parts cost more than a typical tower. ;)

Apple is staying out of this race to the bottom.

You've missed the point.

Steve says you WANT to pay twice as much, so obviously it must be true.

They needed a study for this?

by mc4_a - 8/7/08 11:24 AM In reply to: Eat your hearts out, Apple Fanboi's!! by robstak

It's what has kept me from buying a mac.

Wow

Ok are we doing this? I guess we are. For all you Mac haters, two words for you Windows Vista.

Yeah

Good point. Windows Vista Ultimate costs $450. Monoplies result in absurd overpricing.

ZZZZZzzzzzz...

by skellener - 8/7/08 10:55 PM In reply to: Eat your hearts out, Apple Fanboi's!! by robstak

Very tiresome article. What is this? 1997? Mac users don't buy Macs for the parts. They buy the whole computer. Hardware, software and ease of use. It's more than th sum of it's parts. No matter how cheap you come in with a PC it ain't gonna run OS X without a lot of hacking. Let Mac users buy Macs and let other people buy what they want. Why does it matter so much to you what OTHER people buy? No one is forcing you to buy of use a Mac.

I agree (in part)

by DaveBinM - 8/8/08 12:52 AM In reply to: ZZZZZzzzzzz... by skellener

Buying a Mac is not just about the hardware, it's about the software and "the experience" of it. The whole vertically integrated thing, and the apps like iPhoto, Garageband, iWeb, iWork, all the other iLife things. You're buying into an experience, not just the hardware.

Not to mention "price: is not the same as "value"

by minimalist - 8/8/08 6:54 AM In reply to: I agree (in part) by DaveBinM

I value my free time and having several computers that rarely require my attention is worth a few hundred bucks over their lifespan is money well spent.

so if you have a vista machine with no problems, then...

by robstak - 8/17/08 8:00 PM In reply to: Not to mention "price: is not the same as "value" by minimalist

I just got off the phone with Apple. A very angry, huffing and puffing secretary (I assume she was one of the billions of shiny smooth rounded plastic clones he built: iPeople) scolded me for robstak saying Steve eats babies.

Apple would like this clarification branded with hot iron across my forehead: Please be aware that Steve actually only eats babies on Mondays and Thursdays.

[/whimsical sarcastic dark humour].
