HELP!

HELP!

Using the Administator Account on my laptop, I accidentaly stopped the 'Privacy Control' option on my anti virus software ( Kaspersky ) instead of pausing the 'Parental Control' version as I wanted to check the website one of my kids had been trying to access on my laptop and got 'zapped' by an intrusion of some sort. Not sure what it is, but it will not allow me to open the Administators Account at all..

(I have no problem using the Family Account on the laptop, which is what I am using right now)..

Everytime I try to start the laptop using the Administator Account a page opens up which tells me that the computer is in 'Critical' state and asks me to do a check, giving me only one option which is to press the 'OK' button.

The moment I do that it takes me to another page which is definately a ponographich sites indicator with the picture of a naked woman and numerous idicators buzzing like crazy indicating 'CRITICAL', 'HIGH ALERT', 'RENEW YOUR LICENCE' etc etc..

I cannot shut down the laptop normally and have to turn it off using the on/off button...

I have scanned the laptop for Viruses numerous times (via the 'Family' Account) but nothing is detected....

I downloaded SPYBOT - Search & Destroy, but cannot run it, as this can only be done using the Adminitrator Account!

I cannot do anything via the Administrator Account and am getting very frustrated!

How can I get rid of this 'Intruder'( without having to have the Hard Disk reformated...)?

PLEASE HELP !!

Thanks a milion..

Shafket

P.S. I am a 'novice' of sorts when it comes to computing, so please guide me accordingly!

Try to boot Windows to Safe mode then..

by Donna Buenaventura Moderator - 8/4/08 5:13 AM In reply to: HELP! by shafket

login using Administrator account (in SAFE mode).
How to boot to safe mode: http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Scan using your Spybot-S&D while in safe mode.

If you can install while you are in safe mode (but Admin account) download and install Malwarebytes Antimalware (MBAM) or SUPERAntispyware from:
MBAM - http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?cdlPid=10867990
SUPERAntispyware - http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html

Update the definitions. To manually update the above programs:
1. Malwarebytes Antimalware's database: http://malwarebytes.gt500.org/database.jsp (just run the .exe to install the updated definitions)
2. SUPERAntispydate database: http://superantispyware.com/definitions.html (get the core and trace definitions. Extract the content of core and trace files to C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware folder)

Scan using the above programs in Safe mode.

Or use online scanner while you are in Normal mode but use another browser, Firefox because your IE is maybe hijacked:

Download and install Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
Go to Housecall website to scan the computer: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/

HELP

by shafket - 8/4/08 9:35 AM In reply to: Try to boot Windows to Safe mode then.. by Donna Buenaventura Moderator

Thank you Donna for your super quick reply.. BUT I am still stuck!

I just get the laptop to boot in safe mode..

The address you gave me asks me to turn off the power/ wait 30 seconds/ turn on the power again/ tap the F8 key to open the Windows Advanced Option Menu/ to ensure that the Safe Mode is selected/ Press enter ..

I have tried to do this numerous times, switching the computer off and on afresh every time.. The Windows Advanced Option Menu will just not open....!

Is there any other way of booting the computer to Safe Mode??

I have also tried the MSCONFIG route, but once again I need to be logged on as Administrator to succesfully run this thru!!

I have downloaded Firefox, but to run Housecall I am prompted to install Java(TM) and the moment I have downloaded this programme, I cannot install it as this requires me to login to an account with Administrative permission!!!

So, I am back to square zero..! Still Stuck ...!!

Please help!!!

Please try once again..

by Donna Buenaventura Moderator - 8/4/08 10:02 AM In reply to: HELP by shafket

Restart the computer. As soon as it power on and pass the quick-self test, quickly press the F8 key.

You cannot use msconfig unless you are able to login as admin so you're only option right now, I believe is to try to boot to safe mode to logon to your Admin account.

If the Windows Advanced Option Menu will still not load, please use the Windows Recovery Console

Press The F8 Key, Once Per Second to Access Safe Mode...

by Grif Thomas Moderator - 8/4/08 1:16 PM In reply to: HELP by shafket

...selection screen.. Frequently, pressing the F8 key once doesn't get it done. Immediately after restarting the computer, press the F8 key, once per second, till you reach the selection screen. Once there, use the up/down arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then press the "Enter" key.

Hope this helps.

HELP!

by shafket - 8/11/08 6:03 AM In reply to: Press The F8 Key, Once Per Second to Access Safe Mode... by Grif Thomas Moderator

Thank you all for your suggestions, but I am still stuck!..

I have managed to open the laptop in safe mode, BUT that D**** Intrusion is there as well!!!

Opening the Laptop via the Administator account brings out the same page which starts off with some strange south european language, then
the same window pops up giving me no option but to shut off the machine using the on/off button...

In Safe Mode I cannot go online.. I cannot at home using the Hifi wireless network or the ethernet cable!

I managed to save Spybot S&D onto a disc, but it wont let me install it or anything else!

I am going round in circles.. have tried numerous options. even system restore to a date previous to when the intrusion happened.. but to no avail ...

I really to not wish to reformat the HD...!

Do I have any other option???

PLEASE help!
