drop-down menus are on a black background ith a white box/bl
by nehmah2 - 8/2/08 4:21 PMThis past week, when I clicked on any drop-down, both on and off the internet, the menu background was, and still is, solid black with a white box and black lettering. The only choice showing is the one you are on and the previous ones, but nothing further down the list. I have not asked for any changes in appearances. The cpu is a compaq, running XP, internet is IE, with updates and patches current. How can I return to the white/black set-up. It is much easier to read ALL of the selections. I recently changed monitors, but the menu change happened before the new monitor was installed.

Go to control panel & open the Display properties. On the Themes tab there is a drop-down which you can use to select a theme - change it to Windows XP and then hit ok. Then check for your problem.

They had me disconnect the modem, wait 30-60 seconds and restart the computer. I believe she referred to "power modem" Then I reset to Windows XP. All is well, I have a vision problem and trying to find a line on a blacked out menu is NOT fun.

Again in control panel, there's an icon called accessibility.
From there, go to the Display tab, tick High Contrast, and then hit Settings.
The drop down box in there has many options but "High Contrast White" may be what you need - you might have to experiment.
