It is impossible for me to open my locked driver's-side door in the rain without getting my key wet. My question is this: If I put my wet key in my ignition in order to start the car, will it cause a short or do any damage to my car? Thank you for your response. user429
Why can't you just wipe the water off with your shirt or something?
It shouldn't be a problem as the key assy. is pretty much a mechanical one for the most part. The electrical contacts may become a problem but as the other poster offered, just wipe the key down. You can spray a lube into the key hole to lessen any corrosion(or wetness) but I haven't come across such a problem, unless you're by the sea, etc.. -----Willy ![]()
