You people really shouldn't be removing IPv6 from your networking protocols, it can cause more bad than good.
For one thing, IPv6 FIXES a lot of problems that arise from IPv4. IPv6 is going to ultimately replace IPv4, which means no longer using that.
a lot of programs have already been ported over to IPv6 as well and more are in the process as well. Don't be too surprise if you stop IPv6 on your Vista machine and some of the programs you already have no longer work, or a new program you purchase doesn't work at all.
You people should be reading up on IPv6 and decide for yourselves if it's something you really want to stop.
IPv6 is mostly effective in VoIP situations, and a total changeover is not on the horizon for about another 6-7 years. My suggestion is to unbind, not the completely remove. If this affects other programs, in rare instances, it can be reapplied easily, by reversing my offered steps. If this is the situation for that rare user who is using Limewire along with some other, very new application, which depends on IPv6, then they will obviously need to seek advanced solution, such as designation or mode reconfiguration.
Good luck!
I have also had the problem with limewire and vista. I get only one bar for connection strength. and it says I am behind a fire wall. I have diabled my firewall with norton and with windows vista, still no strong connection.
anymore suggestions?
My only suggestion is to at this point just download MP3 rocket...it works with vista and it's the same set up as limewire..the only differance i can see is the color scheme..LW is green and MP3 rocket is blue...
Thanks i downloaded the rocket and i get full bars.. i dont understand it, but it works
I don't understand it myself...but it works with Vista Thank you to the person/s who put it all together and worked out the Vista issues
MP3 Rocket is the way to go if your haveing issues with limewire and Vista
Just downloads MP3 rocket from Cnet as suggested and downloaded and access to music no worries - brilliant - thanx!
go to this forum message from frostwire... scroll down to "Download fresh gnutella.net file" you have to download the latest gnutella.net file and replace it in your limewire/frostbite folder and it works immediately
I bought my daughter a new HP laptop with Vista and limewire didn't work, however, first and foremost, frostwire is better, but to each is own... but, I spent a week and at least 3 hours pulling my hair out after finding the fix... after downloading the new file, both worked perfectly... (fyi... you cannot have both on your machine at same time, they will force you to uninstall the other...)
I couldn't get LimeWire to open in Vista, but I also had downloaded filthy Morpheus. Once I uninstalled Morpheus, my LimeWire took off. It may be another sharing program halting you?
I have always maintained a "Retro-Tech PC, the Cylons and SkyNet are here. The Einsteins of P2P are working fast and furious to boost their egos too, in the meantime, grab an old laptop or that old pc in the closet and make it operational once again. Retro-Tech to XP-SP1 or WIN98, format a drive and hook up the peripherals, just remember to get the Y2k PATCH FOR 98. Tough times with MS-VISTA, "Gnutella" and "Limewire's" bittorent, is it? All know that once on the net, aleays on the net. Most of us that post blogs on CNET are fairly savy however, sometimes the full frontal assault and hit to our egos is moot. When the frontal assault fails, flank 'em. Even the older pc's have USB ports. Hook up your Jumpdrive or EIDE and start downloading again.

I have a new computer dell inspiron 530. I cannot connect to the internet on limewire to download songs. I'm running Mcafee and spybot security.
just download the free version 5.1.1 from here http://www.download.com/limewire/ and install it once installed just reinstall any other version over this one and it sould work perfect if so let me know at from lockyann.
I'd just like to point out that I've been using limewire for the last 8 years without incident - The client itself causes no harm to the operating system, it's the files you download. Obviously there *are* files that will trash your OS, but as long as you're smart about what you download, you won't run into any problems. Wonderfully enough, there are specific files to watch out for, easily marked by their completely "out-there" file names, and less easily marked by their file sizes. So far, I've found FOR SURE that 97% of files with the following sizes are either garbage or virii:
499KB
3,462KB
5,611KB
11.0MB
Almost every AV application should flag these as garbage. If you're really computer savvy, take a look at the internals of these files, and you'll see that they're not as they seem.
For those of you experiencing lag issues with Limewire and other similar clients (i/e: severe system slowdown while limewire is running), be sure you have enough RAM/CPU power, or try ending some non-vital processes that are running in the background. If you're running a multi-core CPU, set limewire's affinity to 1 core.
This is done by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, selecting limewire from the "Processes" list, and right clicking. The option to set the affinity will be in that menu. This will limit limewire to utilize only half of your CPU power at most. I really hope this helps, as too many people are down on limewire and other clients these days.
