Is this lecture has only become so insanely popular after he died, it would have been lovely if he had got to see it being watched by millions.
Nah, it was insanely popular before he died. It was a smash hit from day 1. He even did a pared down version of it on the Oprah show. It's been all over youtube for a good long while too.

that his legacy lives on in some really cool ways. The Alice programming environment is in part his work. My daughter was using Alice (and actually beginning to understand things like classes and inheritance at age 9 using Alice. Heck, I even had a lot of fun with Alice.
