I've bought a lot of things off the internet using price comparison sites like CNET or Yahoo Shopping in the past, and have rarely had trouble. Recently, I've tried buying a high-end plasma the same way, but I’ve been scared off by the tactics that different stores use several times, and have ended up cancelling my order 3 or 4 times now. Its not that I’m uncomfortable buying large, expensive or high-tech items online, I bought my Mitsu WD64735 this way, it’s that the practices with plasmas seem different.
For some reason, after I place the order the store always calls me to “confirm” (what they really mean is upsale). I’ve never had this happen for any purchase other then a plasma, and personally I find the practice to be complete BS. One reason I’m using the internet is to avoid ill-informed, pushy sales people. However, that’s not what has caused me to cancel my orders in the past. During the call the salesman will always ask me if I want a “stand”. This has happened to me no fewer then 3 times (at 3 different websites), and while the website lists a “plasma TV stand” as an accessory, it conveniently has a broken image link. Since the “accessory” always costs $250, I assume they are talking about an A/V stand, not basic TV legs. But when I ask the salesperson, they always make it seem like something I really need – not that I trust them. Add $250 to the TV price and they aren’t that much cheaper then Amazon (which is weird, because in the past I have always managed to buy TV’s 35% cheaper then Amazon or Best Buy using Yahoo Shopping).
Is it possible that these guys are selling the TV without the basic legs it needs to stand on its own (maybe they assume everyone wall mounts it)? Am I missing something?
The legs (or the base) should always be part of the TV. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Make it clear to the sales person next time you order.
