what this means is that you can connect to the internet through qwest using a mac but there is no technical support for mac users if something goes wrong. there is no one at qwest trained to give tech support to mac users so if you encounter a problem you are SOL, but you can definitely use them for an internet connection.
and as such, the original poster probably came to a solution already. Just letting you know.

Dump them. Until they get their act together, they don't deserve your money.
As he mentioned he lives in the boonedocks and is therefore "very limited" on broadband choices. He may have Comcast out there as a cable co. (not sure) It is very good and much faster than DSL but the Quest Deal is a packgage program that includes cheap cell phone service a reasonably cheap phone service and DSL.
If I understand his problem it is connecting to the msn network to get into his e mail, the only other thing of value on MSN would be stuff like Encarta, a fine service for students and people that want to learn things.
Either I don't understand what his problem is or he has a (AOL) type of mindfix on what an ISP does?
What I previously outline should work if for whatever reason he cannot logon to MSN for their AOL type of bulletin board. An internet service within a network.

Here is what I found on Quest site:
Macintosh®
G3 or greater
Mac OS® 9.2.2 or higher
64MB RAM (desktop); 64MB RAM (laptop/notebook)
30MB hard disk space (additional space will be needed for ISP requirements)
CD-ROM drive (internal or external)
http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/install/index.html#systemrequirements
Now as far as MSN is concerned either Quest or MSN should have provided you an install disc to install the ''network'' for broadband'' and to go thru the process of acquiring your msn network e mail address.
As you probably know, you really didn't need to do anything to get running on broadband with your MAC,
just plug the dsl modem or router into the back of Mac and your on your way?....Let me know if I missed something?

My brother bought an iMac this year and signed up with Qwest/MSN DSL service. The Qwest portion works fine as others have pointed out. You can connect with or without a router.
What you won't be able to use is the email account that comes with the service since M$N stopped supporting Macs last year. Get yourself a Gmail account and you'll be able to use OS X's Mail application.
I am on a Mac Powerbook and on broadband, I just went to MSN.com
I see no reason why anyone cannot logon? I seriously doubte there should be any problem?....Let us assume there is a problem thou and say now what?....O.K. I have a hotmail account which is essentially the same as a MSN account except the e mail add is joe@hotmail.com rather than joe@msn,com.....ok you google for a download of MSN Messenger for MAC... after the download you setup the account. You put in the msn e mail account in lieu of the hotmail address. and there you go, Now ur in e mail, on bottom of screen you will see my msn which let you setup your own page to your personal interests. You can also select msn main page. or anything else you want to do with msn.
The only reason I have this is I like to chat with the poor people that have pee cee's...:) It also provides me with an email address that is free and should I change ISP's I have a permanant e mail address that will not change and it is free!. Also sign up for net passport, use your current msn address for the net passport account as well.
This does work!
Let me know if you have any glitches.

Gilbert
I have an emac running 10.3.9 and signed up for Qwest dsl in oct.2007. They put me on the msn special promotional program, even tho I told them I had a Mac. They told me I had the 'basic program' and that it included email with a q.com address..They actually put me on the "Silver 1.5" when my bills each month were wrong, they finally changed me to the 'basic program/256'program assuring me that my email would remain the same. Many other things occurred, and for awhile I switched back to the 'Silver 1.5.' The long and short of it is that when they switched me to 'basic256'in December, that started a clock ticking, so that on March 20, 2008, I tried to log into my email and it was gone. No advance notice or warning at all. I have spent many, many hours since then on the phone with tech support and they say that my account is "locked", and they cannot get my address, contact information, important work files...nothing...and that there is nothing I can do about it. I am trying to get friends to send me forwarded emails in the hope that I can manually re-build my address book, contacts. I have no choice in the area I live in except for ComCast which is about $20.00 more expensive per month than Qwest. I have filed a complaint with the PRC in my state today by email. I had the Mac mail running, and now cannot use it either since I used the Qwest coordinates to set it up (it did not have an address book since I had just added it recently). I have a friend who was going to sign up with Qwest and now will not, two others who have PCs and have encountered constant billing and other problems with Qwest.
Any ideas about whether Qwest is being straight with me saying after 90 days, an account is locked and cannot be accessed ever again?
Any suggestions on re-configuring my coordinates so that I can use my Mac mail? Any other free email suggestions besides Gmail?
TIA, sita
Your's is not the first account of problems with Qwest.
However, if you have a dot mac account, and you intimate that you do, just create a new account, select dot mac and all should be hunky dory.

Hi
Thanks for posting back. I just configured my mac account to the Qwest coordinates, it does not operate independently of the Qwest account. In other words, I don't pay Apple for it separately and it is now just as defunct as my other one. The issue is, I had all addresses, work folders, etc. only in the Qwest account and cannot access it now or ever, according to Qwest. I am trying to see if anyone knows if there is indeed a way to retrieve all of that information.
sita
Then you do not have one.
Qwest supplies your connection to the internet, where you get your mail from has no bearing on that. Wherever you get your mail from, you will be going through Qwest to get to the Internet.
Are you saying that Qwest has locked you out of your account?
OR
That your 90 day free trial for .Mac has expired?
Where were you getting your mail from before this problem occurred?
What are Qwest coordinates?

1) DSL as previously mentioned should be compatible with all Mac's/PC's. What is the issue is how they connect.
2) If using a modem with a USB connection you need drivers that is often the problem in that there is not always Mac drivers available.
If you connect via Ethernet then there should not be a problem. Some modems do require a restart if you are physically changing the connection from the modem to one computer to another. In this instance get a Router, saves a lot of hassle.
Of course, you have to define 'Not supporting Mac's', it could mean No Drivers or simply they do not have anyome eho knows how to configure/problem solve them.
I love talking to helpdesks whose first line of problem solving is along the lines of ''click on the start button'' I reply along the lines of ''I don't have a start button'', it is fun to let them figure out they should have asked first if you are using a Mac or a PC ![]()
Noticed that the poster has not been back for about 4 days. Guess he sorted out the angle of the dangle.![]()
As you noticed, I have been away for awhile. and you are correct, I did make a few changes, and learned a bunch from you folks. Thank You all.
First change is I am changeing providers.
Second, I just ordered a Mac Book 2.0
Third, I will probably be back to ask a lot more questions.
I have been a pc user since '98, and I am sure there will be a fair amount of studing, to learn how to use the new Apple.
Welcome to the Mac world.
Just ask away, when you have questions, and rememeber:
There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid answers.
You'll find some of those here too
