I've got a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5816 that has been acting pretty sluggish and I wanted to restore from the recovery discs. However, it has a broken internal DVD/CD drive.
I don't have time to get it replaced seeing as my father (the user) has to return to Iraq soon. So, I bought an external DVD drive (LG) to attempt to reinstall the OS from the recovery discs. It refuses to boot from the drive, even after I set it to boot from a USB drive, and even a CD/DVD drive in the BIOS. I'm lost as to what to do now, I've only got a day left to try to fix it. Googling about the problem has revealed the possibility that it must be an internal drive, or an external DVD drive made by Toshiba.
Even if a donor from another laptop.
then an external drive and you whould have fixed the problem. Even if you had them install it where you bought the cd it would be fixed now.
