#1, and most important..Verizon's coverage in my area is abysmal. I had hoped that a newer phone might pull in the signal a bit better, but it doesn't. OTOH..AT&T has a tower within sight (1/2 mile) of my house, unlike Verizon, whose nearest towers are both over 3 miles away.
#2 The user interface on the Dare is infuriating. Too many times you have to tap more than once to get something to happen despite the haptic feedback telling you that your tap was detected. Especially annoying is the way it works on the web. Far too often while scrolling you end up clicking on a link on the page and getting sent somewhere you didn't want to go. Also, it is often very difficult to select the link you want without hitting the ones above or below it instead. And the responsiveness is still and issue since it often takes a multitude of taps before it actually responds. Worst is when trying to select a text input box. It takes a lot of tapping at it before you can get the keyboard to come up so that you can type something in.
The landscape/portrait rotation feature is very limited. It only works one way..by turning the phone to its left side, and only while using the web, the media player, and the picture viewer.
On the iphone you can turn the phone in any direction and view from any of its 4 sides at any time, not just in certain apps. Also, the interface on the iphone is way more responsive and I can type with far fewer errors on it despite the lack of haptic feedback. I admit that I'll miss the video capability and the better resolution camera on the Dare, but as a phone or a web browser the iphone has it beat due to AT&T's better signal in my area.

The only way to truly compare would be two phones from the same provider. While I prefer any Windows Mobile phone, some folks prefer Symbion, Apple, Palm and other user interfaces. This is really difficult to have a fair comparison. We all have preferences/needs that differ dramatically from user to user.

iPhone 3G supports multi-touch gestures; the Dare doesn't.
Apple's GPS support already provides geotagged photos and location-based apps from day one.
For music, the iPhone supports full-quality Internet streaming radio through native apps; you could argue this doesn't completely count, but Rhapsody is strictly optional on the Dare, too.
And the most important bit, which you probably already picked up on: an iPhone native app is generally more flexible and powerful than a BREW app, especially since iPhone apps supports full 3D, GPS, and the tilt sensor. Apple's implementation of shopping and downloading is also arguably more capable, since it's fairly easy to shop and install directly from the phone as well as to do the same from iTunes on a computer.

I read in one review that this phone is a "signal hound" TOTALLY TRUE..Second I need pop email which both handle...third..and HUGELY important to me is tethering. Iphone geeks claim to have all kinds of hacks etc but I cannot take a chance.
Whoever said this Dare is UGLY has lost all value in the forum as lacking any objectivity. A blind cynical pessimist would say this thing is sexy as hell...ok.you might think the iphone is sexier..as you might thing Giselle is sexier than some other super model..in the end..I would sleep with either LOL

Here is what I don't like...
The apps say mobile email vs. contacts, texting, etc..do not all look the same. I love the HTC with MS Mobile 6 because it was a real o/s that everything conformed to making everything more intuitive..still it is fairly easy to use.
Does not appear to have a built in app for TASKS
Almost ZERO third party support
Problems I had.. Getting my old contacts into it. If you are not fairly technically astute, you are not going to be able to do it.
OVERALL..never had an iphone...if it had tethering I would have gotten it...But..now that I Have the Dare..I am stoked..love this fargin phone
I just got the IPhone

1. Pretty easy to use. Some items take a while to remember how to work them, but it is getting easier with time and practice. My Verizon phone took me two weeks or more to finally get familiar with it.
This seems a little more straightforward.
2. nice features in general and convenient to have wherever I go. It is nice to have internet... My internet on Verizon was a joke, although I am sure they will eventually catchup in order to compete. I gave my phone to one son who is still on verizon... he is delighted!
3. keyboard is convenient but takes a while to get used to. My fingers don't always hit the right key.
4. The GPS feature it nice but I wish it talked as well so I don't have to look down at it when I am driving.
5. The email feature is also nice to have. Not all my email accounts worked smoothly when I tried them, but then I don't need to have all of them with me; I am rearranging my email boxes so I get less junk on the phone and only get the essential emails I need while I am out and about. My roadrunner accounts on my home network are not particularly received well thru the att network, but aol, mobileme work great.
6. The Ical is terrific especially when used in conjunction with mobileme so that the calendar is in sync
with other computers at home.
7. The app store is nice, although my first downloaded free app seemed to conflict with the software in that some other items did not work correctly. I had to redo the phone software.
8. Despite the complaints about the lower lens quality of the camera, I find it works great and haven't so far felt I needed a flash. The only difficulty is holding the phone still enough while capturing the photo.
9. The instant stock reports is also a very convenient feature.
What I don't like:
1. It is a little more bulky than most other cell phones. It doesn't fit into my phone holders like those that are attached to some purses. When I wear a dress or slacks with no pockets, and I don't have a purse with me, I have no where to put it. I did however devise a way to hang it around my neck when I am walking. I know there are arm bands available, and maybe I'll try one, but even that looks a little bulky. On the other hand it fits nicely in my husbands pants or shirt pocket. It is slightly more bulky to hold onto when using it as a phone.
2. The Batteries wear down really quickly, even with the Gps turned off. I have a set up in the car now where I can recharge it while traveling.
3. The monthly bill is a bit more costlier than I thought it would be. I am going to charge my two adult children for their portion of the bill. I am not sure if this will be more of a luxury than I want, but time will tell.
4. I am disappointed that this phone and ATT do not include voice dial. I assumed it would because I had it with Verizon as part of the deal. I bought a blue tooth earphone for driving, but I still have to manually dial a number. It is unsafe, to do that, and voice dial would take care of it. ATT wants another $4.99 a month (+ tax,fee I imagine) for that service, which I do believe should be included. I will be contacting ATT about this matter, to be sure. And the more people that do, the more likely that feature will be included in the package.
5. I must have a lot more interference in my house than I thought. The ATT bar signal is low, although I do get good reception on the phone. The wifi signal, if I use wifi, is very low. I probably don't need it but was told by the ATT that using wifi would speed things up a bit. NOT sure I have found it to be true.
I have to remind myself that although this device acts like a computer, it is not, and it is still a phone!!
One cannot cut and paste like on a computer, which I have to admit would be a nice feature to have.

LG Dare by esteban28I have waited for almost two years....I have just read about the LG Dare and was encouraged to look into it when I called Verizon that I would probably be leaving them. Things I liked on the video about it on a website are the memo pad almost like on my pda where i can write in script and it turns into print. I also liked that colorize feature for pictures, but I can fix stuff on my computer like that, I think. Some of the other advantages like better camera lens and flash are tempting. Things I will miss about my verizon phone LG-VX9800: the flash on the camera (but honestly I don't use it that much) and perhaps the better lens, but the pictures are SO small on my current phone I have to send them to my computer to really see them. And sending them has been a bit enigmatic these days. I used to send one at a time to my email. Lately some haven't been showing up, so I have to go to pix place and then I have to download them and the process I find somewhat confusing and/or time consuming. My friends who have the iphone can't say enough good things about it. Since I have had only apple computers since the first Mac, I prefer to continue support Apple now, besides I just bought a few shares of ATT, so I better support it!!I think both the Dare and Iphone will continue to improve over time. After my ATT contract ends I'll see where I am at the time and what new phones are out at the time. I switched to verizon from Cingular in the first place because cingular did not hit some places where I live, but I don't really need my phone and I imagine ATT is doing better now, locally. I do wish Apple had put in a flash, better lens, and a few others things, but overall I think the possibilities with the Iphone will continue to improve. I know that they will be upgrading software for video, for example.

I have it and it's a nice small phone but it has alot of issues. I hope Verizon comes up with a software upgrade to fix the keys getting stuck and the background light. Forget about recieving a call on a Sunny day, you can't see the screen at all and you can't modify the background light. It's a cool phone but the "keys are killing us". On several occassions I called the wrong people and I must of hit 1000 times the end key and nothing... the stupid phone doesn't respond. Don't even get me started about scrolling up and down. Read some reviews and ask around before you buy the phone.

It has to still be under warranty. I just bought the Dare and I don't have issues like that. Sometimes in the browser, when I am in full screen mode, it's hard to get the menu back, but that is it. I have not known a touch screen product yet that gets feedback right 100% of the time. I've also taken the dare out in the sun (live in Denver - bright sun all the time) and have no problems seeing it. The screen display on ANY phone in direct sun will not be as good as it is in the dark or artificial light.
If you have doubts, go to the store and check it out before you buy. Make your own opinion. I've never had a better carrier than VZW, so I wouldn't switch b/c of that. Their customer service is top notch (which is why I say call and see if you can get a replacement), and so far I really like all of the customization options and the size of the Dare - just my opinion.
