New to ipod - no drivers...

by jose_luis2006 - 7/2/08 3:15 PM

Sorry for my question it may sound silly but I am totally new to ipods and I am lost.

I received a brand new ipod 16 GB and connected it through USB port to my PC. It is not recognized. No surprise, really.

I have read that I need itunes as the equivalent to a conventional driver, but the version on the apple store is only for XP or Vista and I have Windows 2000 OS. I am not willing to change to Vista or WinXP just for the ipod.

Is there any drivers (where?) for WIN2K or anything else I could do to be able to use the ipod before returning the shiny thing to the bank that gave it to me?

Can't Use Older iTunes

Unless I'm mistaken, the new 16Gb iPod will be the Touch. To use it you will need the latest version of iTunes which will mean upgrading to XP I'm afraid. I'm sure somebody will be able to find a workaround, but to achieve full functionality and use the device as it should be you need to upgrade.

Itouch only works with XP and Vista

Yes indeed, you are right. It is the Itouch model.

I have tried with older itunes versions but none works with the Itouch on WIN2K. And I am not going to "upgrade" to XP on my main PC just for the Ipod.

Finally I have solved the problem using my laptop, that has Windows XP installed. Only I had to install SWP2 and enable the WIFI network that I was not being used as I did not need it. Simply said, but both things took several hours work.

But the work necessary was worth of. Some of the features available once the Ipod is connected to the WIFI are really amazing, such as the capability to locate my home automatically on a Google Map in a few seconds.

Thank you all for your answers.
