Laptop stops charging

by Jdiep - 7/6/08 1:37 AM

Hey all

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and have got my second battery. At first it charged all the way up to 100%. However, for about 2 weeks now it will not charge past 61%.
The battery is about 3mths old.

I haven't otherwise changed any software or hardware in the last 2mths.

Any ideas?

Cheers
JD

You will need to scroll down to the box headed, "Service and Tips".

I hope that helps.

Is it a Dell battery.

But it's well within their warranty. Time to call it in.

Battery

Wow, that is odd sounds like a bad battery but it COULD be something related to the inverter. If you get another battery and have the same issue try another inverter but sounds like bum battery. Best of luck!

You could always try to calibrate

by Sovereign Moderator - 7/6/08 12:18 PM In reply to: Battery by Phil Crase

Step 1

Select a power plan (or create if not there) that does not turn the laptop off in any way if you're not using it. In XP there was an "Always On" option, in Vista there is a "High Performance" option. So basically you don't want the laptop to shut down, hibernate or go to stand by.

Step 2

Charge the battery to the fullest possible. If it's 100% or 60% ... at some point it has to stop charging (unless the battery indeed is damaged).

Step 3

Remove the AC adapter and keep the notebook on until the battery is completely drained and the laptop turns off. Once the laptop is off, reconnect the AC adapter and charge the battery until the charging light goes off. Then turn the laptop on and it should say 100% charged.

PS: Don't forget to change your power plan back.
