At the bottom of the screen? I don't know of any hardware that needs removal.
SATA connected drives can be safely removed this way.

But I can't tell if that helps since nothing appears in your post about the hardware in question.
Bob
it says it is a 'USB Mass Storage Device'
WDC WD50 00AAKS-00YGA SCSI Disk Device
Read the other link and you would have known that the WDC WD50 was not in question here. USB devices do use and should see that safely remove icon. Any owner that insists on that being not shown needs some fast educating. No offense intended.

The safley remove hardware icon appears whenever you plug in an external drive. The idea is for you to click it before unplugging the drive which will cause Windows to stop reading and writing and unmount the drive so you don't frag the filesystem when you unplug it.
So long as you have a USB drive plugged in you will see it so wantingto remove it is akin to wanting to remove the Network icon when you're connected to the internet.
There is of course the option to hide the icon as there is with most of the tray icons all you have to do is right click the taskbar and select properties then go to the notification tab check hide inactive icons and click customize. Then find the remove hardware icon and select hide
