3 wireless computers + Xbox on Cable. Should I stay with G standard or go to pre-N? Do I need Gigabit Ethernet? The range in prices goes from $50 - $250. I am leaning towards the Netgear 854T Rangemax. Also, when are new routers reaching market.
That is from 2004 as noted at http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/belkin-wireless-pre-n/4505-3319_7-30993672.html
My advice is if you see Pre-N, run away.
-> http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/netgear-wnr854t-rangemax-next/4505-3319_7-32468712.html is from this year and as you can read it's "Draft 2.0 of the 802.11n" standard. No more Pre-N.
Bob
There are still a LOT of G series routers on the market but Bob is right do an N series router uses some different technology and is still backward compatible to B or G. N uses MIMO technology, MEDIA IN MEDIA OUT, multiple antennae for faster throughput and they are really not much more costly than a G series.
