Several years ago I shelled out $25 for Musicmatch Jukebox - I loved its Library function, it's CD burning app and its overall interface and sound quality. Of course, Musicmatch is no more, and recently I've even had issues loading the app altogether (I think it's checking on dead servers for updates or something and hanging).
So...
I wonder of anyone has suggestions on what I can use to replace it? Here are my criteria:
1. Should be FREE.
2. Must be able to read .M3U playlist files (I have over 200, made for my iRiver and iPod/Rockbox music players and I'm not about to re-make them all).
3. In that same vein, must be able to save an existing playlist as a .M3U file and not use some sort of proprietary/incomprehensible playlist format like iTunes does (I use the resulting M3U plasylists on my portable players).
3. Must be able to rip CDs.
4. Must be able to burn audio and data CDs. Audio CDs should be burnable form my existing M3U playlist files.
Beyond that, things like custom skins or visual FX are nice, but not necessary. I BELIVE that WinAmp will do all of the above (not sure about M3U capabilities - anyone know?) but I'm hoping to find something for free. I tried using Windows Media Center for this use, but became quickly frustrated with the strange way that it builds playlist files.
Can anyone help? there *must* be an app that meets my criteria, right?
-Matt
Nobody has any suggestions?
FYI - tried using Win Media Player for this use yesterday and got frustrated. Took a 79 min. 25 sec. playlist (.M3U) and opened it with WMP. Had to re-save it as a WMP playlist file to burn it to CD. Then, the burn took *forever* and dropped the last track because WMP said there wasn't enough space on the disc. This was the exact same playlist that burned to disc with MusicMatch, so I know there was room. Grrrrrrrrrr... I hate Media Player.
I use CDBURNERXP. m3u is noted at http://cdburnerxp.se/help/Miscellaneous/options
As to musicmatch there are prior discussions and your new post is the same question (but over there are answers) so I have nothing new to add to your duplicate question.

I'll check out that app.
As for other MusicMatch threads, I did a forum search before posting this thread and found several discussions asking for help w/ lockups and exporting playlists to iPods and the like, but nothing specifically pertaining to REPLACING MucicMatch on a feature-by-feature basis - can you drop me a link since you seem to remember there being such a thread(s)?

Sorry but there's plenty there to digest. If you ask a new question or one that hasn't been beat to death I think that's where members will answer.

Yeah, I can do a Google search as well...
Your search replies were the same as mine when I looked last week - 7-8 pages in, and still nothing intelligible about replacing MusicMatch for the *criteria I specified*. Some are really in the weeds (burning utilizing specific file formats, batch renaming/editing of ID3 tag info or exporting the MMJ library database file t another app) which is fascinating but not what I need.
If nobody knows then, OK fine, but I came HERE because I thought there would be people that might know the answer based on my specific criteria - I don't see that as rehashing a question that's been asked many times before, but... whatever.
NOTE: tried CDBurnerXP... nice little app, thanks! I love the way it gives you detailed track and disc space info. Unfortunately, it's buggy as hell - it barfs on about 70% of the M3U files I try opening in the burner app with an unreadable error message. As it asks me to put in details of what I was doing when I experienced the error so it can phone home, that tells mew that the app is either still in development or that they know it has major issues.
This just figures. The superior, fast, elegant, functional application (MMJ) gets bought and liquidated by someone with a competing crappy, back-asswards program (Yahoo Music). Grrrrrrrrrrrr....
Maybe I should just break out the lube and buy WinAmp...
All mine were created by me. I have heard the complain about this but in every case it was some P2P download. So what to do about crap?
As to your specs, good luck and happy hunting. I have yet to find any sanity about those that loved MusicMatch and have moved on to use what I use with great joy.

MediaMonkey is a fantastic replacement for MM.Here's the link: http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/free/ Cowon has one called Jet Audio: http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/jetaudio/ You can also purchase upgrades for both of these.MediaMonkey in particular,is light years ahead of the now defunct MM
Your reply to help in replacing MMJB was very helpful. I'm checking out all the facts on MediaMonkey before purchasing the Gold Version which most closely resembles the MMJB version.
I'm tired of typing in the song names and dealing with glitches in the burn process in MMJB and not having support. Nero is good, but a pain to drag each song into a box to burn.
Thanks, again. RLS,Sr.
