We split the atom years ago!

by Dialisys - 12/21/07 3:25 AM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

will be a time when all our power will be generated by some form of fusion technology - just a matter of time b4 we get there.

That, of course, if big business and rogue states back off and let us get to it!

Seems to me that the biggest hurdle would be its safe use and public acceptance.

Cost - would not be a particular problem - unless of course someone wants to profit from it!

Right...

by Andy77e - 12/21/07 9:12 AM In reply to: We split the atom years ago! by Dialisys

Some of the biggest investors in new technologies, are big business, yet when any technology doesn't make the cut, everyone assumes big business is to blame.

I also love comment that cost shouldn't be a problem unless someone wants to profit from it. I have question... I would like you to work 40 hours a week, year round, and not get any profit. Sounds like a blast right? No of course not. If you don't earn money from your work, you won't do it.

Hint: 99.9% of the population is the same. They don't put in long hours and hard work, year round for the sake of voluntary servitude.

So when you say 'there will not be a problem as long as no one wants to profit from it' that's great... but no one is going serve you energy power for free... ever...

Biodiesel

by andrew rabbtux - 11/6/09 4:14 PM In reply to: We split the atom years ago! by Dialisys

If you clean it up enough, it works well and doesn't smell like french fries! Seriously, using a biodiesel generator as part of a Generator-inverter system is a great way to produce green power and use it! see http://www.genverters.com

benign energy source, the long term solution.

by gerry cole - 12/21/07 7:00 AM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

every energy "alternative" has at least one problem. they all interact
negatively with our environment. as i see it, the lowest impact would
be tapping into geothermal heat on a scale large enough to supply the
heat for the generation of electricity for the entire planet. electricity is by far the cleanest "fuel" we are aware of at this point. using electricity directly or in stored form is the only way to go, however this must be coupled with a complete batteries and any associated materials recycling program. this system should serve us
well for quite some time but there must be continuing research and
development into other, even better sources of generation and storage
because planetary heat taps on the scales needed now and in the future may cause the planet core to start cooling. finally, all of this must be included in the real final cost of the product.

NATURAL GAS!!! Cheap, Clean, Abundant.

by JoshTaylor2 - 12/21/07 8:50 AM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

I have the luxury of living in Utah. (insert joke here).
But one of the really great things is the natural gas infrastructure. We have many wells throughout the state, as well as Wyoming having vast reserves. Long story short, I drive a 2002 F-150 5.4 L V8, and fill up for 69 cents; that's right CENTS, a gallon.

Not only is it cheap, it is the CLEANEST burning fuel (petroleum) out there.

I get a clean fuel plate, (HOV lane, free parking), and a huge tax credit from the state.

Move to Utah, and Buy one.

Butanol !

by Jkirk3279 - 12/23/07 3:40 AM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

Butanol is a form of alcohol, but it carries more BTU's than ethanol and doesn't have to be super-high proof to burn, as ethanol does.

Plus it burns in a regular gasoline engine, and has almost the same energy per gallon as gasoline.

Butanol can be refined from biomass using two cultured micro-organisms. The first organism excretes Butric acid, the second eats the Butric acid and produces Butanol.

Nuclear must be in the picture

by dnmakinson - 12/27/07 6:48 PM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

Regardless if you look at Electric, or Hydrogen, there has to be a stationary energy source to create these mobile forms of energy. That choice will be nuclear.

Alternative fuel

by sirsean - 12/29/07 2:04 PM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

My favorite probably is bio-diesel, though I'm not totally sure of it yet.

Least favorite is ethanol made from corn. It requires huge amounts of nitrogen-fixing fertilizer to grow it. And that comes from petroleum. It doesn't have anywhere near the power of gasoline so it requires more of it to equal gasoline. (Just watch "American Chopper's" ethanol bike episode where they put a larger carbuerator on "because it takes more ethanol" to power it). As I understand it takes more than a gallon of gasoline, or diesel, to make and transport a gallon of ethanol.

If I had the money I'd buy all the Archer-Daniels-Midland stock I could. Then I'd sell it all before the inevitable ethanol crash.

Anything but what we use today!

by swkelley - 6/13/08 5:20 PM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

We have enough natural resourses to power our ever growing populations and make it as affordable as possible. Water is no doubt our largest moving mass we have, plus it's molecul structure allows us to produce hydrogen from water not only to say what hydro power can give us to and does today, just not enough of it. Wind is huge and I believe micro technologies will be huge to create wind farms high and above us. Solor is no dought huge also. So with all these combinations working together we should be able to create free forever clean energy. Our technologies with the Super Cell and magnatisim is another science of clean energy.
Thing is the world needs something now, and to be honest if it wasn't for greed we would probably have these technologies in use today. But if you would like some more information on hydrogen generators check this out, something that can be applied today to the machines we own and use daily.

Can car run with water ?

by johnandrews52 - 6/17/08 4:35 AM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

Can we run our car with water and gas?
Can anybody tell me is the HHO Gas is real working or is another scam?

Water is the best alternative fuel!

by johnandrews52 - 6/17/08 10:43 PM In reply to: What's your favorite alternative fuel? by wcunning CNET staff

hi there, I use water to fuel a car as a supplement to gasoline. In fact, very little water is needed, only one quart of water provides over 1800 gallons of HHO gas which can literally last for months and significantly increase your car fuel efficiently, improve emissions quality, and save money. I found the way through this site http://www.runcarsonwater.us i really recommend it to everybody, it's a nice ebook where you can find the instructions on how to do it! take a look.

note to above

BTW....^^^THAT......is NOT an HHO generator which needs a catalysis to work properly like what most ppl(ill informed about the difference between running on Hydrogen and HHO gas) are installing in their car for better mileage on their car/truck....in the link above is a water fuel cell...pour water and it goes....nothing else needed.....but with an HHO generator you need the baking soda, white vinegar, etc to get it working
