My tv has 1 HDMI input, my receiver has 2 hdmi inputs (and 1 out) ...I currently have only 2 devices outputting HDMI (media center and DVD player). I figured I was safe since I could just use my receiver to switch between my two devices. While this works well, it causes an issue when trying to stream netflix...it detects a break in the signal and kills the stream.
After talking with Netflix they said it wasn't possible to send the signal through the receiver. While I trust most things netflix says, there has to be a better way than me manually switching the HDMI cables when i want to use the media center vs using the dvd player. I can't use the MC for dvds because the wife won't use the MC (already went down that path). Netflix also told me that a HDMI switch would cause the same issue (but I haven't tested this yet)
I'd also prefer to keep everything with HDMI since I don't want to buy a long monitor cable and then also run audio cables too.
So is there a way for me to do this or do I just have to keep switching the plugs manually?
a receiver not passing through their signal. Lots of us have a blanket recommendation of going direct to the TV without going through the receiver as is has potential of introducing additional problems.
One loses some switching convenience & probably need to buy an HDMI switcher that you will have to raise the butt up off the couch to switch (without remote control service to do that.)
In any event, run HDMI from media center & disk player straight to the TV. The TV might provide switching for you. You'll have to check with somebody on that.
switchers work great they even come with a remote control Yes run all your vidio straight to the t.v. and audio straight to the amp using optical connection if possible good luck and please post back to us I bought a Giffen switcher steweee
An hdmi switch should work. The reason it doesn't work with the receiver is because netflix thinks the receiver is a recorder (you know, copy protection stuff).
Thats kinda what I figured, I just wanted a better solution that "buy a tv with 2 or more hdmi inputs". I guess I could just always run the MC through something other than hdmi and run a digital audio. A little messier, but the amount of cords behind my tv; whats two more cables going to do.
