At 9 AM Central Time, the long-awaited and highly anticipated openSUSE 11.0 was released to the public!
News article = http://news.opensuse.org
11.0 Product Page (still mainly written for pre-release) = http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_11.0
(THe product page may be slow or down, the wiki is suffering because of the bandwidth)
This looks grim to me. Nothing like changing the command line results to break scripts and more.
Well, if you live in the command line, then you might not like it. But for most users, who live in the world of mice and windows, openSUSE 11.0 is an incredible release.
Hope they give one.
Some updates with openSUSE 11.0 reviews and a podcast episode with the community manager and evangelist.

Novell Open Audio: openSUSE 11.0 Release with Zonker and Martin Lasarsch

Anything that has the stench of Novell on it is about as appealing as a disease ridden Pam Anderson.
I am testing Mandriva 2008 to see how if differs from PCLinuxOS (which is based on Mandriva) and its very nice: http://www.mandriva.com/
And to boot, Mandriva is one of those distros that like Red Hat, Ubuntu and others stood up to the Microsoft extortion attempts.
I'm sure Microsoft's PR department is thanking you for doing their job and creating FUD around an OS that no patented code, no scent of Microsoft. Mandriva is a great distro, but keep in mind: the Novell/Microsoft deal wasn't an extortion attempt. It was an attempt by Novell to get Microsoft into cooperating with Linux, and it's been mildly successful so far. But the only part people covered was the patent deal.
