I am very happy with my current setup, but they are getting old and I need to replace them. I currently have a Razr V3 and a Palm TX. I love my TX. I would like to replace both of them with one unit, but I am having trouble finding a unit that has everything I want. So I thought I would ask you guys.
What I am looking for is a PDA unit with all these features.
1. Phone
2. 2.0 Megapixel Camera with flash
3. Bluetooth 2.0 for data and audio. (open, not software restricted).
4. Wi-Fi (802.11b or above) non restricted.
I would like it if it were a Palm product because I have a lot invested in Palm OS based software, but I can live with another OS if I can get all the rest of the features.
Thanks for the help.
Here is a link to the Palm TX specs: http://tech.yahoo.com/ps/palm-tx/1992983886
I am not sure which version of Bluetooth the Palm TX uses, I just know that it works with everything. I am so tired of trying to bluetooth a friend a picture or ring tone to their phone only to find out that that they have bluetooth but it is restricted. I am not sure how they are restricted, whether it is a hardware restriction or if the greedy cell phone company software restricted their device so they would be forced to pay for an expensive data plan to receive pics and ring tones via text messages or email. All I know is that a lot of phones come with restricted bluetooth and I will not have that. It if does not talk to everything, I don't want it.
What really amazes me is that, I bought my Palm TX almost two years ago for $150 off of Ebay and it has all the capabilities and more then most advanced PDA that are on the market today. Two years in the technology industry is like a thousand years in other industries. You would think that the technology in the Palm TX would be so outdated by now that you could pick one up for $30. But the Palm TX is still at the top. Wow!
See http://www.palmone.com
I looked at your specs and no Bluetooth 2.0. That send to is not a function of just BT 2.0 but that the devices agree to do this. Sometimes you have to pair things, other times you can use FileZ on the TX to send such. It's far from automatic.
dude ... www.palmone.com just redirects to www.palm.com
They are officially Palm, Inc. ... PalmOne folded (or was subsumed) quite some time back.
:-D
Did you want to discuss the Bluetooth or Plams?
What I want to discuss is a PDA Smartphone that has the same capabilities as my Palm TX with a phone and a 2MP camera. I know that Palm makes smartphones PDA's but niether of them have WiFi. WiFi is a must for me. I will not pay for outrageuosly priced data plans from the greedy cell phone companies. With my Palm TX I can almost always find an open WiFi point and check my email or browse the Internet for free. The cell phone companies can screw themselves and their G3, G4, Widemax networks etc. When they offer an "All I can Eat" wireless data plan for about the same price as my DSL service, then I might consider it. Until then I will enjoy the land of the free provided by a good strong WiFi enabled PDA.
I will end the Bluetooth discussion with this. All I want is an unrestricted bluetooth enabled PDA. I don't care if it is 2.0. I just figured that since I was going to get something new, I might as well get then latest technology as well.
but HP has a pretty solid PDA/phone coming out end of this month/mid next month, the iPAQ 910 for $499.99.

I have never been a fan HP/Compaq. The quality of their products does not impress me. I would have to see some strong reviews before I would drop that kind of money for an HP PDA. Especially since I just bought a Lenovo Y410 (Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram, 160GB HD, DL DVD-R) laptop for the same price. And you know Lenovo builds quality stuff.
I've been looking around the net for reviews for a while and up to this point, they've been pretty tough to come by. I did find this one, though. http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/index.php/gadgetblog/comments/review_hp_ipaq_910_business_messenger/ I have to be honest that I've never visited HardwareGeeks.com before so I'm not sure about the site's reliability as it relates to reviews but this review spoke pretty highly of the device.
Sorry for the double post (couldn't find an edit button for my last reply) but I found another review from a more reputable (for me, anyway) site. It's more of an initial impressions story than a full-on review but it gives a decent overview of the features, which, to me, sound pretty solid.

I have for sale some phones (N95 8GB, Apple iPhone 16 GB, HTC Diamond, 8600 Luna, 8800 Sapphire Arte , N82 , U900 Soul etc)all are at very low prices! If someone is interested you can contact me at frangsp@yahoo.com
Thank you.
It works well enough and while it had wifi and bluetooth you can't beam an image to other things unless there is some consensus on protocol and more. It's not a Bluetooth 2.0 issue. It's all software and more.
-> HINT!!!! Look up DLNA and all this just works.
Again, research what had DLNA.
