My wife and I have looking for a new V. This will be our first flat screen. We want a 46 inch something. Everywhere we go someone has a different idea on what we should buy. Plasma, LCD, rear projection etc ... We have pretty much decided on the Samsung LN46A650 ( I hope that is the right model # ) but now the 750 seris is coming out. We can only afford one tv and it will have to last a long time. Should we wait for the 750 or just buy the 650? What are the differences? Also there was an over heating or some kind of problem causing the tvs to shut down and then turn back on. Has this been fixed? We are running in circles trying to figure which one to buy and where to get the best price. I am rambling so ... enough is enough. Thanks.
Here is the deal with technology - there is always something new around the corner. However in the mean time, odds are there is more than enough product out there to meet your need and budget.
If the 46A50 meets your needs (and budget and is of good quality) go for it.
Samsung makes a killer LCD. one of the best - I would personally go with them or Sony, one or the other.
Again, just my thoughts but of the 46A650 meets your needs I am not sure what incremental benefit you would get. I don't mean stats and comparision points, I mean pure you sitting in front of the tv noticable differences.
having said all that, either way I think you won't go wrong with either choice, which is a good place to be in.
Thanks for getting back to me. We have been looking at the Sony XBR4 also but we are leaning to the Samsung LN45A650 Both about the same price here in Denver. Can find them a little cheaper on the net but I would rather buy in town in case of a problem. I'm just a little old fashion that way I guess. Again, thank you.
I am in a similar dilemma (different price range) trying to decide between the 46" 650 or 550. My technophile buddy tells me I will not use the 120hz because it looks funny and that a 20000:1 contrast ration on the 550 is plenty. His main reasoning for the 550 over 650 was the matt screen instead of having a bad glare on the 650's glossy screen.
Any insight on this? Will I be happy with the picture on the cheaper model or should I step up to the 650?
Thanks!
I choose to buy the Samsung LN-T4065F (glossy screen, 15,000:1 contrast) over the LN-T4061F (matte screen, 10,000:1 contrast), and do not regret it at all. The glossy black screen rarely *reflects* images while the TV is on, and the PQ is excellent. I think the colors/images *pop* a little bit more with the glossy screen.
Obviously, it's quite reflectively while the TV is off, but that doesn't hurt anything IMO.
I thought the 120 HZ was to improve the movement on screen, such as in sports etc... so you don't see as much blurring or jerky motion. I have seen comparisons on tv s side by side and I can tell a difference. As far as a glossy vs. matt screen, I didn't know they even made two different styles.
Hey Ultrarider -
I thought Chipleader and psuKinger had very good answers. Here is my 2 cents. Let's start with your 650 vs 750 question.
1 - There is a small design difference with the bezel but both have our ToC design. Do you like the design of one better than the other?
2 - 650 has Wiselink and the 750 has Wiselink Pro. Wiselink is the name for Samsung's USB reader on HDTVs. Wiselink can play MP3s and show pictures. Wiselink Pro can do MP3s, Pictures AND Videos. Would you ever use a USB drive with your TV?
3 - The 750 is DLNA Compliant. DLNA is a way to stream content from your PC (via Ethernet) to your TV. Would you ever hook up your PC to your TV?
4 – The 750 also has a built-in content library with things like recipes, games, exercise routines and a few other things. (Note – you can’t update the content on the TV at this time). Do you think you would use this content?
If the above 4 answers are "no" or "not really" then you can go with the 650 over the 750 and save a little money.
Regarding 120 Hz, you are correct that 120 Hz improves motion blur on TVs. Some people don't like it because it changes the way a picture looks. Others like it because they feel it looks more real or crisp. I think 120 Hz is Love or Hate thing. It is a different way of watching TV and might take a little time getting comfortable with it. We allow people to turn it on or off depending on their perference.
Regarding shiny screens vs matte screens, I completely agree with psuK. You see a reflection when the TV is off but when the TV is on I personally think the reflection is minimal. It doesn't bother me.
Thanks for considering a Samsung HDTV. Good luck with your shopping.
