I don't suppose anyone who knows can comment but the missing piece of information for me is whether there will be GPS capability in a new version of the iPod touch. I suppose I am in a tiny minority who has essentially zero interest in an iPhone and its concomitant ongoing price of ~ $1000 per year. On the other hand I find the iPod touch with its wifi capability and multitouch interface to be the first subnotebook platform that is truly compelling and almost irresistible. Adding GPS capability without incurring subscriber costs would be fantastic but the silence is deafening.
Did I miss the announcement?

Because that is when Apple traditionally announces music related items and iPod refreshes. WWDC is not the time for iPods.
The day will come when the iPhone, the Touch and a several other Mobile OSX devices get grouped together as ther new mobile computing devices that they are. But for now the iPhone gets all the attention and the Touch gets thought of as a fancy iPod.
Its possible they might include GPS chips in the Touches but I would not hold my breath. Apple seems to have a problem letting the Touch exist on its own merits and it seems that they always have to withold one little thing just to make the iPhone more enticing.
