HDMI AUTO SWITCH

by stevewellman - 6/12/08 2:00 PM

I have a Samsung Plasma television that only has 2 HDMI connnections. One of these is taken up with HD Dish Network. I need to connect an OPPO upconverting DVD and a Sony Playstation 3. I have discovered an HDMI Auto Switch from a company named "Parts-Express." This must be a new product because there are no reviews for it on CNET. The auto switch is advertised as a superior device because it's plug and play, requires no remote, and no push buttons. The device simply activates when one of the appliances is turned on. I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has any experience with an auto switch and if these are as sound in quality as the ones that require the use of a remote. Also, does it make any difference if all the HDMI cables going in and out are from different companies? The DVD uses a HDMI cable from OPPO. The Playstation 3 has a HDMI cable from Sony. The out HDMI cable connecting to the Samsung television is from Phillips.

HDMI cables are HDMI cables. . .

No worries there, digital is digital. Recommendations on a switch is to power up only one device at a time. Powering more than one will degrade the signal.

monoprice.com also has HDMI switches for pretty good prices. I don't know if they are auto-switching like you are talking about but most have remotes that you use to switch between inputs.
