Well

I plug the PC directly into the modem (no routers in my house).

I haven't tried plugging it into someone else's network, and I don't think that I will either.

I'm not sure what other info I could you give you.

What about my OS? Can the problem be caused by Vista?

'Can the problem be caused by Vista?' Yes..

But there's not much more we can do tell you give us more details.. If you're not willing to test various troubleshooting options, plug in your computer to a different network or plug in a laptop to your's...or try updating the firmware on your modem, etc. it might be time to take the computer back to get one that works.

Hope this helps.

Grif

Different problem

by jerryatrictoo - 6/8/08 3:17 PM In reply to: And If It's Died After 6 Months... by Grif Thomas Moderator

Live in Canada. Have been having many problems with Windows Vista 32bit. 2gig computer.
First contacted MSN. Everyone, including the "Chat Support" people looked into the many problems & 6 "chats" later they gave up! Every time they did the "remote" thing, they caused other problems.
On to HP, they tried & when I gave them control it turns out, the computer was NEVER to be sold in Canada!
And/or it was an openbox item. I bought it from Best Buy IN CANADA as new & have been getting the run around ever since.
Anyone else having lots of problems with Vista & Best Buy?

Well I only have the one computer at home, no laptops, no routers, and I can't go over someone's house and boot up my computer on their network for 10 hours straight, if not more.

I called Best Buy and they said that the only thing that they could do for me is to send it to Gateway.

They said that if I wanted Geek Squad to look at it and run their software, it would set me back $60, and she never said anything about fixing it under that price.

I called Comcast, and they said that I would have to wait until the problem occurs again, and when it does to not touch the PC and call them, they she doubts that it's Comcast's fault.

Well, I guess I'll try everything, if everything fails I'll pay Geek Squad the money, and I'll go without my phone service for a month or something since I can't afford it.

Thanks for all of your help again.
