Cursor lag in Vista

A friend recently purchased a Compaq notebook with a Core 2 Duo CPU and an Intel GPU. She noticed a significant amount of cursor lag. She returned it and got a Toshiba, also with Intel CPU and graphics, and is having the same problem. I don't know whether it's the same GPU; I think this one is the ubiquitous X3100.
I'm wondering whether the Intel graphics chip is causing this. I'm aware that Intel makes the worst GPU's, but she isn't doing anything strenuous - no gaming or complex graphics, just web and word processing. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this?

The graphics card should have very little to do with the problem. You don't mention how much RAM is installed.. If the mouse if "hesitating" instead of just being slow, then adding RAM and reducing the number of unnecessary background programs and services will help.
To speed up the general pointer speed, Open the Control Panel, open the "Mouse" icon, then change the cursor speed.
Or, since it's a laptop computer, tried installing new touchpad software, assuming the friend is using the touchpad vs and actual mouse..

I meant to say it has 2 GB of RAM, which should be enough. I did try changing the pointer speed as well as other adjustments; didn't help.
Make it a warranty issue.

Move fast so you get under the 2 week window when you can call it a POS and ask for every dime back.
