I just got a new system with Vista pre-installed, and it has a wireless card. I have a router set up to not broadcast the SSID, and I connected my xbox by entering the SSID manually, along with the password and security type [WEP or WPA]. I cannot find this option in Vista. The comp is setting closer to the router than the 360 is, both being 1 floor below the router. Any ideas?
System Specs:
Acer Aspire M5640 AM5640-E5407A [Yes, all that]
Vista Home Premium
Intel Quad Q660
3GB Ram
ATI HD2600 Pro [512]
Router: Belkin 802.11g
I'm not sure about the brand of the wirless card other than that it supports 802.11b and 802.11g.
Yes, I know I could run an ethernet cable, but being that I am in Hawaii I'll have to order it [50+ feet][that's a big-@ss cable] and wait a week or two for it to get here. Plus, wireless is easier to deal with for the time being. If you need any more info let me know.
Many wireless adapters are unable to connect correctly unless the SSID is broadcast and available to be recognized.. We've had issues with many even after they've connected correctly, then the SSID broadcast is disabled. Occasionally, they can't find it.. So we leave it enabled and create a good WPA password. NOT WEP which is now too easy to crack.. (within a couple of minutes for those that want to get in.)
In addition, make sure your router has the latest firmware which supports Vista. If it doesn't, please download/install it. Some of the older routers may have problems if updated firmware isn't available. Then open the Control Panel, double click on "Network and Sharing", then enable it from there.. Or.. see the link below for some basic steps:

Hope this helps.

That's what I ended up doing, and it worked. Thanks for the help.
