I have a hidden text file called: HBEPGUID.TXT in my Shared Documents
I delete it but it reappears every so often. The contents of the text file is:
336f7db3-13d4-41f2-a7e6-f46528f545e0|001641000CD4
Any ideas to what this is?
Adam
Is that HBEPGUID correct? Google shows no trace of any such word.
As it is a .txt file, scan it with your anti-virus then open it to see what it says.
Do you use any P2P file sharing software, or is this computer on a network?
Mark
I am connected to a network. All anti-virus and spyware scans came back clean. Registry has been scanned as well.
I cannot find any reference to this file and I have not installed any new software for months.
However, recently my mouse has been acting strange as well.
Adam
What did it say?
Are you using P2P file downloading software?
Mark
The text file that keeps opening has a single sentence "BETTER OFF BirthDay"
I do use P2P downloading software and I have scanned my computer for viruses as well.
Using P2P will often give such strange results. All you need do is download an infected file and open it without thoroughly scanning it first and all sorts of nasties can spread throughout your system.
We tend to offer little help for P2P users at these CNET forums, because most will use P2P to download pirated and copyright protected files illegally.
In your case I would suggest running and creating an HJT or HiJackThis log, and posting it in one of the specialist HJT evaluation sites. The forum sticky post here;

explains how to get HJT and where to post your results.

did you ever find out what that HBEPGUID.TXT file was. it showed up on one of my computers. it's strange because it doesn't go away. it doesn't try and talk to the net. if I delete it it shows up again. in my all users folder.C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\HBEPGUID.TXT
I think it has something to do with Hp maybe. do you have a hp printer?
WinXP SP
I get the same file "HPEPGUID.TXT" with the contents in my case being, "3f671cc5-02c5-4ef8-afcf-2df07e684c6a|00A0CC28CB9C". This file continues to be re-created over and over.
I have tried the following:
1. Searching the registry for the FileName and the contents with no results.
2. redirecting the Shared Documents Folder, under ALL Users to Shared Data, including all references in the registry. The redirection is intact and properly functioning with all programs and WinXP. However, the Shared Documents continues to be re-created when whatever program is generating the file recreates it.
3. Deleting the file and Folder.
I have not been able to narrow down the program creating this file.
Please let me know if you or anyone has found out the source of this file.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20209670-strange-file-HBEPGUIDTXT associates it with Norton Internet Security. Does that ring a bell?
Using Filemon (free download) your might be able to confirm it. Or uninstall Norton, delete the file and see if it's still gone after a rebout.
