Yahoo Mail Reliability

by vahounddc - 5/28/08 2:49 PM

For the past few weeks I have experienced problems with my Yahoo Mail account. It goes out for some period of time almost every workday in the afternoon. Sometimes for more than a few minutes. Today it was unavailable for more than one half hour.

I use the email address for my personal mail, business and community activities (in which I am heavily involved).

Is this going to be a continuing issue? I know they have had problems in the past but they seem to be getting worse. I hate to change addresses again as it has taken two years to get my far flung contacts to all use the Yahoo one. But I need reliable email.

What is happening with them? I have a paid Yahoo Plus account, but frankly I'd rather pay more and have a better product than rely on something that may or may not be working at any given time.

Ask Yahoo

Ask Yahoo, not us. You're paying for service, so they're far more likely to get back to you if you email them asking what's up.

None of us know however, unless someone here happens to work for Yahoo. I don't know what kinds of things are going on with their network. But this is ALWAYS a risk with ANY kind of online service. They can go down unexpectedly, and may take very long periods of time to come back online. It's unavoidable really.

If Yahoo doesn't seem interested in explaining the situation to you, and things continue to deteriorate, then I would say you have to make a choice. A choice between the hassle of moving to another, (hopefully) more stable, service provider, or the hassle of dealing with the service outages. Not exactly a desirable choice to have to make, but what can I say, life sucks sometimes.

Yes, Yahoo Mail Had Problems...But Mine's Working Here..

..and it's just the free version. But if you're paying for the account, it certainly deserves contact to Yahoo about the issue..

Just a question, since you have the "paid for" Yahoo Plus version, are you also using a POP3 client such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express to download the mail to your computer? Could it be an issue with the third party client? Or are you using Yahoo webmail to make all the contacts?

Personally, if you're using it for business related issues, I prefer my ISP's mail account.. Create one specifically for the business stuff and use it.. If something goes wrong, you may have a little better service from your ISP... At least I do.

Hope this helps.

The problem is with their servers, I think

No, I am not using POP mail with Yahoo now. I interface entirely through their new version of webmail. But I also use the PDA version and have tried switching to their classic interface on my computer. When it is down they do not work either.

I probably will set up a POP account to pull my mail just so I am not without it entirely when Yahoo decides to quit working. But a POP account or email client is not the problem now. The mail service itself simply goes down regularly. And their search function does not work at other times even when it is otherwise working.

I posted to see if there is some sort of newly identified endemic problem with them. I may check out my Internet provider's email but hope they can resolve this so I do not have to change addresses again.

reliable email

by SultanEmerr - 5/28/08 3:22 PM In reply to: Yahoo Mail Reliability by vahounddc

The only reliable email that i know of is the free one provided by your ISP, although I have seen very few complaints about http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird
or
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey.
Also, I prefer Gmail slightly over Yahoo.
And I must admit I have had no problems with the new mail.live.com/mail
