I have a hard drive that is divided in half. I previously Was dual-booting Vista and Linux, but I removed the Linux partition. I have Vista booting first on the MBR. I deleted the linux partition, so now I have the vista partition and 200 GB of free space. How do I add the free space to my vista partition?
thanks
Mount the partition externally with a live cd and resize it to take up the entire disk. Commit and save your actions.
is for the happy few like you (maybe 1% of PC users, although I won't object if you present research showing that it's 1.2%) that speak Linux. I assume the OP is one of those, because he told us about a Linux partition.
The remaining 99% (or is it 98.8%?) have to pay for a program like Partition Magic or Norton Ghost (if they still use Windows XP) or use the Vista partition manager (if they have Windows Vista, like this poster).
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/resize-a-partition-for-free-in-windows-vista/ shows how to do it.

I've posted more than one.
Let him search my posts. I'll be glad to give the details of how to resize the NTFS partition to use the entire disk.
It's way more than that for Linux users. The problem with most studies is they assume an either-or situation. Plenty of people could be dual booting Windows AND Linux, but OS surveys don't take that into consideration more often than not.
And more than that, most LiveCDs boot straight into a graphical environment that is very similar to Windows. So long as you aren't a complete mental gimp, you should be able to figure things out without too much difficulty. Of course it always helps to assume you CAN do something before you even try. Go into anything thinking you're going to fail, and you very likely will.
Anyway, since programs like Partition Magic was brought up... Always remember that those programs are NOT guaranteed to work. It may be rare, but they can and do eat entire partition tables at times. So always, Always, ALWAYS have a backup of anything important before you go messing around with partitions.
I wonder why you don't preface your advice about the need to safeguard the files people don't want to lose with a backup copy first. I can't count how many tales of woe we have in the forums over partitions lost along with all the files.
