Camcorder tape onto DVD

by Karthiha - 5/18/08 11:33 AM

I have a camcorder with the small casettes - I want to transfer the footage onto DVD and label each section - for e.g. John's Christening, John's 1st birthday, etc and then be able to play it on TV - what is the best software for doing this? I am not a computer expert so the easier the better - I have a Panasonic camcorder Any advise is REALLY appreciated..

Go get an Apple, connect up the firewire and you'll be done in no time.

What is the model number of the camcorder? Does it have a firewire port? Does your computer? Is you computer fast enough to capture the video without hiccups?

Case in point: I had a Compaq with a 2.7 GHz processor and 1 Gig of RAM. It was good for about 3 minute bursts of recording onto the computer. Anything longer, and the recording would begin to hiccup. (no worries as the 3 minutes clips can be spliced together).

I upgraded to an HP Multimedia computer w/ 2 Gigs of RAM, and a 2.61 Ghz Dual Core processor. Video transfers from my Sony Digital Camcorder are now seamless with no hiccups.

I use a firewire card to transfer video to my computer and then edit with pinnacle software and then save to file and then send to dvd disc using Sonic MyDVD software as you title each clip separately as you have said you would like to.You lose a few mg when you split each clip and title separately but it allows you to when watching to cut straight to the one you want to watch without watching the whole dvd.

A VERY GOOD PROGRAM

I use the firewire to transfer the tape to the PC and then I use Corel Video Studio to edit and burn to a DVD. It works quite well.
