Show Delayed Today - No Show MOnday

by acedtect CNET staff - 5/23/08 11:22 AM

Some technical problems will delay today's show and Monday is a holiday in the US, so no show until Tuesday.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Audio messed up

by Owyn - 5/23/08 3:50 PM In reply to: Show Delayed Today - No Show MOnday by acedtect CNET staff

Just got the episode. Audio is really messed up sounds like it was recorded with tin cans and string.

Just found the note on the blog

by Owyn - 5/23/08 3:55 PM In reply to: Audio messed up by Owyn

"NOTE: The audio for today's episode was lost due to a technical glitch in the studio control room. As a result, the audio for this podcast was pulled from our live-stream camera. Don't expect anything mindblowingly awesome. This episode is for the true, hardcore BOL fan. Be warned!"

Yeah, I noticed too

by DaveBinM - 5/23/08 4:12 PM In reply to: Audio messed up by Owyn

I want to listen, but it's kinda *shudder* at the same time. But hey, kudos to Jason for getting us something to listen to! :) But is the audio in the video version okay?

funky audio

by Beowulfie - 5/23/08 5:24 PM In reply to: Yeah, I noticed too by DaveBinM

I'm listening right now. It sounds like they are outside or something. Is this the way it sounds on the video versions of BOL? I haven't watched them yet, plan to though.

No, the video version is usually fine

by DaveBinM - 5/23/08 5:47 PM In reply to: funky audio by Beowulfie

I'm not sure about this week. But it's because (as I understand it) that the audio was taken from the u-stream videos.

We bailed on the video this week unfortunately...

by raygun01 CNET staff - 5/23/08 6:41 PM In reply to: No, the video version is usually fine by DaveBinM

Trying to put the context of this audio mishap into a new video series just wasn't worth the trouble... The audio is horrible, let's face it. I would rather not have a video release than have one and have a bunch of people judge the video because of this one mishap.

The audio podcast, on the other hand... well, there's enough people that requested whatever we had... I'm sure a few people will be unlucky enough to be checking out this Friday's episode as their introduction to BOL (and that sucks!) but... I figure, something is better than nothing.

Mistakes happen, we'll move on. Hopefully the stuff in the control room is all figured out now. I do not want this to happen again. :(

backup?

by Papa Chango - 5/23/08 8:43 PM In reply to: We bailed on the video this week unfortunately... by raygun01 CNET staff

Is there a way to make yourself a backup?
Heck, even just plug in a small M-Audio mp3 recorder into the board.

Post 12 of 21

That's perfectly understandable

by DaveBinM - 5/24/08 12:43 AM In reply to: We bailed on the video this week unfortunately... by raygun01 CNET staff

Yes, the audio is horrible, and it makes sense not to do the video, better to do it right rather than just doing it for the sake of it. However the audio was the best you had to work with, and the best we have to listen to, so I'm glad there is at least *something* there for the audio podcast. Hopefully anyone that was being introduced to BOL for the first time will give it another shot on Tuesday and like your usually brilliant work. :)

I hope it all get sorted out too, and that you can get it all back up and running smoothly again. It sounded awesome last week, I could hardly tell it was in the video studio and not the audio studio.

The backups failed

by acedtect CNET staff - 5/25/08 8:49 PM In reply to: That's perfectly understandable by DaveBinM

There was an FCP recording and a tape backup AND Ustream recordings. Unfortunately the failure wasn't with the recording but with an audio switch that got thrown in the switcher that killed all audio. So no audio got to the file and tapes, and allw e were left with was the Ustream audio.
