WRT54G Frequent disconnects

by piorele - 5/20/08 8:13 PM

I'm having a problem with my LinkSys wireless router WRT45G Version 8. It keeps disconnecting every few minutes and even seconds. I have upgraded to the latest firmware and tried everything from turning off the power to playing with the settings. My adapter tells me that it's connected to the router but cannot find the internet. I know the problem is not with my modem because I have resorted to connecting directly to the modem to my laptop with an ethernet cable and I've had no problems. But I need the wireless modem for my desk top in another room. When I tried connecting to my router with my desktop it would only partially load the page or not at all. So the problem is the connection between the computer and the modem. It has become really annoying lately espcially when using my Yahoo IM which seems to be the most sensitive in detecting a disconnect. It would disconnect every few SECONDS. My wireless status indicator for some reason doesn't detect a disconnects very well since when I get disconnected it still shows I'm connected.

YOUR MESSAGE THE ROUTER Disconnects , and shows no networking.

I searched and hunted this issue myself, and found that its inside the computer,a programming issue which is the fault of Microsoft.Seems Microsoft did this one to everybody as to a timer setting. What happens is that when your on a USB PORT on your computer Microsoft placed a timer as to the ports.
OPEN YOUR CONTROL PANEL go to SYSTEM , open that up go down the list till you see the ROOT HUBS this is your usb connections on the computer, open that up and you see the 3 or 4 usb ports. RIGHT CLICK each port and go to the advanced section and turn OFF the Let Microsoft set the port timer. DO THIS ON EACH USB PORT . After this I did a APPLY for each and rebooted the system. NOW YOU WILL STAY ONLINE and NOT have shutdowns. MARK
