I'm thinking about switching my anti-virus software from avast! 4.8 Home Edition to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0. seems like the AVG is a whole lot more popular compare to my avast.
Before I proceed with the switch, I wanted to know if most people would agree. I've used avast for over a year now and I haven't had any problems. Not that I can remember anyway... But then again, since I've onle used avast, I'm clueless about other softwares and I don't know if others provide a better protection than avast.
Which is more user friendly between the two? And finally, what is the proper way of switching anti-virus software? Is it better to uninstall avast first, then install AVG or if it doesn't matter.
My system information are as follows:
Processor: AMD Turion 64X2 1.80 GHz
RAM: 958 MB
System Type: 32-bit Operating System
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
All comments are welcome. Thanks!
If you are having good success using Avast, I would stay with it for awhile. I am running AVG Pro but will not change to the 8.0 version, till they get the bugs out of the 8.0 version. I have used Avast before, and found it to be a very good A/V and it was rated higher than AVG.
Just my opinion, the decission is up to you.
Yes you must uninstall Avast to install AVG, can not run two AV's in realtime.

Thanks Larry! Much appreciated.
avast was rated higher? Really? That's good to know.
Thanks for the input!
Avg 7.5 user and a current Avast 4.8 user here's what I see.
Avast is lighter.
Both products work fine.
Neither product caused me any fuss.
Avg seemed a bit more user friendly.
Avast seems to have been written by folks that English was not their primary language.
That's not a problem....it just takes a little reading between the lines.
Avg 8.0 is a different animal....they have added more features.
Some folks seem to feel it's a bit on the chunky side.
Compare the features of each and see which best fits your needs.
Thanks Bob! Much appreciated.
Very good advise. I think what I will do is uninstall avast and try AVG. Not knowing what AVG has to offer makes it hard for me to decide which one to use. It's the only way for me to really know is by trying it out.
Thanks again!
