Okay, the setup where I work uses static IP addresses for all of its computers. However, the laptop my boss uses he needs to have dynamic IP addressing for when he's away from here and he doesn't want to have to continually change from dynamic to static and back. So right now the set up looks like this:
Server (accepts only static IP addresses)
|
Router 1 (Static)
||||
wireless Router 2 (Static IP, but dynamically assigns IPs), Computers (all static IPs)
|
Computer (Boss's laptop, dynamic IP address)
I need to be able to enable my boss's laptop to access files on the computers connected to router 1. I can not, however, change the IP setup and I would like to do it without purchasing new equipment. My boss's laptop runs Windows Vista, all others run Windows XP.
Have them buy a copy of http://www.netswitcher.com
Done.
Bob
If your boss happens to be using a Thinkpad line of laptop then it comes with a network profile utility called ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows Vista - Notebooks. If it isn't already installed it is a free download from IBM/Lenovo's site. I've been using it for the last 4 years and it will easily do what you need.
