I should have looked at the CNET postings first. I had already done everything I could think of to rid the problem. I'm now left with a pop up window at every start up. The "Windows Installer" is trying to install a "Vongo.msi" file from C\WINDOWS\Download Installations\{20F15A02-3916-4775-8694-718E3F7AD31A} that I have obviously deleted somewhere in the last 3 days I've been working on this.
Any ideas?
Re old Dad's comment , I am also left with a pop up window at every start up. The "Windows Installer" likewise is trying to install "Vongo" all I did is uncheck the box so that screen does not show up. It does not resolve the issue of voiding VONGO completely !
These companies should be held responsible to consumers for ruining
their new products whith unsolicitated software and JUNK , which the
consumers paid Good money for.
For this one, it appears that the procedure is different, as the Vongo(away) software has changed:
Note: This is on a system that has not actually *used* the Vongo software.
1 - Booted into Safe Mode using the F8 key
2 - Start > Run > msconfig
3 - Under Services tab, unchecked Vongo
4 - Rebooted, ignoring the usual nag dialog about disabled startup items
5 - Rebooted into Safe Mode, used SafeMSI to enable the Add/Remove programs feature
6 - Uninstalled Vongo
7 - Rebooted, ignoring the usual nag dialog about disabled startup items
8 - Start > Run > regedit
9 - Exported a Full Backup of the registry
10 - Searched the registry for all "vongo" items, deleted same (4 items)
11 - Searched the registry for all "starz" items, found none
12 - Ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, found no vongo items
The software *appears* to be gone, but not enough time has passed for me to declare it gone for sure.
Just install revo uninstaller, it solves everything.
to remove my vongo
1st back it up on a disk
2nd i went to the control panel and add/remove programs and removed vongo
it remove it completely in fact i had a hard time reinstalling it
I got Pavilion dv6500 laptop. I spent the whole Sunday to removed Vongo. I restarted my laptop, a message popped up indicating Vongo is re-installing. I wasted so much time.
Can I (or we together) sue HP and Vongo for this? We did not order this software. We only order the laptop and software that enables the laptop to run only!
I just used the "delete programs" function and it seems to be gone. Yes, it is maddening that HP includes this junk and it certainly depreciates the HP brand. I spent a lot of money on a new lap top, and it is an insult to have to spend time getting rid of this junk. Also, I have not been able to get it to produce the second of two DVD recovery discs. I've ruined several discs trying. Anyone else have this problem?
I too had a Vongo infection. I tried to remove by using the microcrap (soft) uninstaller. No luck. Tried removing all files and folders related to Vongo. Again, no luck. I tried the "installation clean up utility" as suggested and it seems to have worked. Thanks.
As a side note, my next computer will be a MAC, it couldn't be any worse.
Circuit City offers a service by the "Firedog" support team. For 25.00 or so they take your new computer and perform a number of software processes that makes your PC ready to go. This includes the initial installation of Windows and deletion of junk software. At first I balked at having it done, but found out it is well worth it, saving at least an hour or more of extracting Windows and scrubbin the "garbage" They also perform a pre-installation spyware scan and antivirus scan.
If you are having a hard time removing vongo from your HP laptop try this. It's verry easy.
log-in on your admin user
launch windows internet explorer
go to google.com
from goolge search type in "windows utility clean up"
click the first link saying "description of the windows utility installer cleanup utility"
and you will be directed to microsoft help and support, scroll down and you will see a blue link saying " Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now." you just have to click on that and after you install the windows utility clean up try to launch it, go to start menu and you will see the windows utility installer, once you already have it locate vongo from that software and click on remove. thats it.
i hope this could help you.
I removed Vongo from my laptop (I think sucessfully), but everytime I start up my computer, it automatically tries to reinstall Vongo. Does anyone know how to stop the computer from doing this?
download windows installer cleanup.that's it.
I JUST REMOVED VONGO FROM MY HP LAPTOP USING THE WINDOWS UTILITY INSTALLER. I TRIED ALL OF THE OTHER SUGGESTIONS ON THIS FORUM, BUT NOTHING WORKED EXCEPT THE UTILITY INSTALLER. HALLELULIAH!!! I'M FINALLY RID OF VONGO!
We should not have to pay HP to remove something is no longer in service! Especially since HP made the deal with Vongo...they should correct this problem. I think as consumers of HP (or other computer equipment), we should expect more and demand more for services rendered!
Shame on HP!
It's criminal the lengths they've gone to to make Vongo difficult to uninstall. I won't ever do business again with a company that treats its customers like this. Reprehensible.
