Vista BSD Suggest Bios Upgrade - ???

by kydude51 - 5/16/08 2:32 PM

My computer bagan as an HP Pavilion 061, a1250n, 3800+ AMD Athlon 64X2, with Phoenix Bios 3.47, running Media Center XP. The harddrive eventually got bogged down so a added a new Western Digital 500GB HD.

I did a clean install of WinXP Pro on the new drive and all was well.

Then...I partitioned the WD HD and did a clean install of Vista Ultimate in the new partition. I also boosted my RAM to 3GB, and I'm using an ATI 700 Series vid card for muti-monitors.

After serveral BSDs over a month or so I determined I needed to pay a little closer attention to the BSD obituraries. They suggest, among a couple things, that I may need to update my BIOs. I looked into it and Phoenix has a new version 4, Release 7. My problem is I can't seem to find out where to grab the update.

Trying to get it from HP is futile because my HD no longer jibs with the original setup, and AMD doesn't offer anywhere that I could find for the download. Nor does Phoenix. Where do I get the BIOs update download?

I'll be appreciative of any help you may provide.

Its not a Western Digital HD, the new HD is actually a Maxtor 500GB.

The BIOS for your motherboard were last updated in 2006, before Vista was released, so there is no Vista-compatible installer available, nor will such surface. You could try running it in Vista, using Compatibility Mode if necessary, but aside from that the only way is to install XP, run the BIOS updater, and then remove XP.

the latest bios for your pc is pretty old, 3/2006. so i doubt if it will fix anything.

the real problem is your chipset -- the ati rs482 (aka xpress 200m) has practically no support. i can't find any recent chipset drivers for it.

if you go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and look for vista/integrated/xpress 200m, you'll wind up with this page:

the only thing available is the soutbridge driver. since it's only a month old, it could fix your problems.
