I have a Lexmark printer, and when I first purchased my laptop with Vista, I had to wait a month for Lexmark to make my printer drivers available. I haven't had any problem since. The older the printer model is, the harder it will be to upgrade the drivers. With all the abilities that is offered with Vista, I'm planning on purchasing a wireless printer.
if you have a printer that says after you put in the disc that it is not compatible with vista do i as i did and click exit but leave the disc in .a box will appear asking you if you trust this ptogram.click yes then the installer box should appear. after you install it then plug in the printer to the usb not before.
In January when I bought a new machine, I told them if I couldn't use my Lexmark 6170 with Vista it was a deal breaker. They looked it up, said 'no problem' and I bought it. Didn't work, but I could see it listed as a compatible printer. Then they said to wait a few weeks, that it's probably just late. Great sales people for dumb customers like me. If you haven't bought Vista and you have spent 00's on a Lexmark...don't. Rip off artists, I think.
Hello,
So I've tried the HP 6280 all in 1 series...same as others...reinstalled software 15+ times until I got sick of it! Went out and purchased a brand new Epson Artisan 800, which is a beautiful photo printer and all in one. It said RIGHT ON THE BOX that it's Vista compatible but....low and behold, I spent most of this weekend unistalling, reinstalling, re-setting my router, computer, firewall and other settings.
I called OD as it's been 16 days (they only allow 14)...I think the manager felt so bad for me that she's going to let me exchange it...PLEASE forward ANY suggestions for a wireless all in 1 that WILL WORK WITH VISTA!!! Thanks!
Sherry
As I installed (and when I reinstalled after uninstalling!!!!) the driver for the officejet to replace the 6310xi that suddenly stopped working...argh...each time I get to a "fatal error" message just about at 94 or 96% installed.
As a result, although for some reason I'm able to print with a direct USB connection, the idea of this purchase was to get a wireless all-in-one for our Qwest router network. BestBuy's Geek desk tried to be helpful...they've even shared secrets that the Squad members have learned in their adventures in the great unknown of homes and offices.
Ultimately, however, since it's apparent the network is fnctioning well for internet connection, the final suggestion has been to get a Geek Squad appointment. So, in addition to $180 with tax for the MFC, I'm gonna need to 'virtually' double the investment?
I'll try another installation using the ethernet option. I suppose before returning the printer I'll even consider if there's a possibility that I might want to quit fighting while I'm ahead.
But I'm starting to wonder if a $300 investment is needed, maybe I'll run with either a basic laser in addition or go for a more expensive all-in-one. In any case, it doesn't seem that any of the manufacturers give a damn about their supplied programing and loss of goodwill.
I sympathize and empathize with everyone else out there having trouble with software installation virtual incompatibility with Vista!
I have an olivetti simple_way printer scanner copier and that works perfectly with vista and i can even say it works better on vista than with windows xp, which really surprised me.when i put in the disc a box appeared which said that it was not compatible with vista please exit. i did but left the disc in. then a windows box appeared asking me if i wanted to install this program and do i trust it.i clicked yes and i was able to install it as normal. from - mmcgrory5
Yeah the same happened to me to but all I can do is copy, can't print and can't scan. Did you download the Vista driver from Olivetti? Nothing seems to work for me on Vista Home Premium and nearly downgraded to XP. Any ideas?
I have just heard that the Olivetti website has gone down for good, receivership was mentioned. Do have the downloaded 32bit Vista driver for the anyway printer and could you possibly email it to me? Just my luck to have bought the printer with no vista drvers.
Thanks

Go to www.lexmark.com and look in the new drivers for models that are compatible with Vista. There are several of the older models not having upgrades. Look for tech help and look for your model and upgrade online.
This is such a frustrating issue. If I'd known I was going to have to buy a new printer I would have gotten one of the older machines some stores are still selling that have XP.
We have a pretty new Canon MP600. Vista didn't recognize it. Canon had a special driver, but that driver crashed Vista. Blue Screen of Death. Actually had to reload Vista. Now am stuck getting another printer.
Just to say I rang lexmark to see if they had a driver for the p3150. but they don't and are not making one. so I will have to look for a new one not many adverts tell you if its compatable with vista any ideas please
Erika
Even though Microsoft says the R380 software is compatible, it isn't. Epson's website says you can download a driver, but that driver doesn't have a vista signature. Let me save you the time and trouble of calling them, spending two hours on the phone call you pay for, and getting "help" that knows less than you do... Don't buy this printer until you're sure it comes with the vista driver disk! And then pray you can get some decent support from epson if you need it.
I also have a relatively new HP all in one Office Jet; on their website HP claims that existing drivers work with Vista.... NOT
After hours with tech's reboots and USB driver issues HP decided to 1. inform me that my relatively new equipment is obsolete
2. That the problem is not printer driver Vista incompatibility issues but laptop BIOS and computer update issues.
They do not wish to address at all thier own software shortcomings, or the fact that thier site states and I quote " The driver solution for this product is included in your Windows Vista operating system and is already on your computer. There is no need to download anything . Follow the steps below to quickly and easily get your product working with Windows Vista."
HAH Like hell it does !! Talk about fraudulent claims.
Hi there. I have been trying to get hold of that wonderful file that is supposed to fix the problems i am having in Vista with ym Lexmark Z640 printer. Neither of the two ftp links will work for me. Any idea on how i can get this file as i really need it.
Thanks,
Al
Vista, just like XP has become a problem with printers it seems. There has to be a service pack or patch for compatibility. I asked HP and Dell and they told me no. Although my printer is older, it is perfect for my simple needs, but guess just like all computers and associated equipment, we have to update like they do. Thanks and Merry Christmas, Bob
