I know from watching the news and looking at online news sights that vista is lacking in customer satesfaction. People seem to be prefering Windows XP. Is there away to have the Windows XP theme in Vista (Not Classic view. The windows 9x look)? With that theme and start menu people may be more willing to go with what there used to. one of the first things I did with Vista was look at the themes. I was so disapointed when they didn't have the XP theme.
Actually, the default Windows XP theme was Luna, which was the bright blue (with silver and green as alternatives). Under XP the '9x look' was actually provided through XP's own Classic mode called "Windows classic style," which many Windows 95/98/ME/2000 users noticed was not the same theme, just as 'Classic' has changed in going from XP to Vista. There are plenty of third-party themes to choose from (with a mention of how to use them in the forum sticky), but the original XP and Windows 9x themes are not included or supported.

So there is no Luna for Vista? Talk about big mistake. If one whants to make windows familure you would think they would keep the old theme avalibal to thouse who prefer XP. I like the glassy look but some video cards can't handel it so your stuck with the old ugly classic view.
Vista's default theme is Aero, but you can disable the glass look and other visual effects in order to increase performance. That's commonly referred to as the 'Vista Basic' visual style as in pictured here. You can also follow the processes mentioned in the forum sticky to use third-party themes.

But if you read http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=6337 there are themes for WindowBlinds that approach such.
But (tossing off the M hat) I've found nothing but trouble in theming things. The machines go unstable as we layer more on top of the foundation (which feels like a house of cards.)

Problum with WindowBlinds is it costs money and who whants to pay for somthing Windows should have come with.
Odd. I like shiny.
I realize I will receive criticism for my reply. Nevertheless, freedom of speech is guarranteed in some countries so it is certainly your right to voice your criticism.
If your desire is to enjoy the XP themes and many other functions of XP then I suggest you stay with XP. Nobody is forcing you or coercing you to use Vista. XP will be supported for many years so there is no need for you to use Vista if you don't like it. You can always remove Vista from your machine and replace it with XP as XP is still available for purchase. You should have researched the issue before you went with Vista.
I prefer and enjoy the look of Vista as opposed to XP. I have three other computers with XP and I rarely use them because I feel Vista is superior to XP in almost every manner. I thoroughly enjoy the new look of Vista.
Very few things stay the same for any length of time. Old is old and new is new. Many people prefer old over new and I certainly respect their choice. By the same token, they should respect my choice to abandon the old and go with the new.
It is Microsoft's right to design Vista as desired. It is your choice to accept it or decline it.
Yup, I agree with that.
I agree, I just saying they should include it to make easer transition from XP to Vista for thouse who may not like the theme or don't have the hardware capabilities. I like the Vista theme but some times would be nice to have the XP theme. Thats why I was asking if Luna was avalibal for Vista. I am currently useing the Vista default theme and will stay with it.
The only reason that I am also very disappointed with the absence of an XP theme is ...
Looking at the Programs list in Vista is like looking through a tiny keyhole into a library full of software. Can somebody please explain to me again, *why* is the tree system bad? The tree system means I click start, navigate to the program, click the program: two clicks.
Vista is *much* simpler: Click start, click the scroll bar to find the first directory, click the directory, click scroll bar to navigate the expansion, repeat clicking as necessary, click the program.
Simpler, right? ... ::scratches head::
Ok, no. It's not simpler. What it is, is an exponential increase in mouse clicks and in my risk for carpal tunnel syndrome.
The solution offered by Vista? Revert to the ugly '98' style.
Now that's innovation.
It's in the personalization settings in the control panel. You can also set up a custom cascading menu to launch off of the taskbar. Both the cascading menu and the default linked explorer windows have their strengths and weaknesses. It's nice to have both options set up.
I have tried everything in the personalization to find the cascade option and have found nothing. If you could explain how I would be much appreciated.
Honestly, I think the "glassy" look of Vista is one of the nicer things about it, other than that, I just don't see the big deal about all the brouhaha over Vista. Perhaps that's because I bought my new computer after Vista's SP1 was already released, but the only drawback I've found with Vista so far is that some of the software I had purchased in the past is not compatible. No big deal, most everything I need comes with Vista. So far I haven't had to purchase anything.
Hello there
I am very annoyed because of this graphic mulching vista theme
