How are games on a Macbook?

by rob54w - 1/30/08 3:13 PM

Has anyone used Parallel Desktop (or any other program that allows you to run Windows on a Mac) to play some of today's games on a Macbook? I'm looking at gaming laptops, but really like Macs (oxymoron? maybe.) and I want to know how the $1099 version of the Macbook runs games. In other words, is the Macbook's graphics card good or not? I'm really into RPGs and MMORPGs if that helps.

Sorry.

It runs just as good as any comparable x3100 GMA video based laptop. You need to get the Pro to see games work nice just like any gamer laptop.

So...

It can still run them? I don't need insanely realistic graphics, I just need the game. I want it to run smooth, but it doesn't need to be a flawless experience. I don't really know what you meant by x3100 GMA, I'm not exactly a computer guru.

Thanks for the response!

Let me be more blunt.

The Intel GMA x3100 is poor to terrible for gamers. It's a crapshoot if your game will run on not.

-> Don't do this.

Macbook's fatal (for some) flaw

Yes, I'd get the Macbook if it had a better graphics card option. I think Apple figures that fewer people would bother with the much more expensive MB Pro's if they allowed that.

I'm easily confused.

If gaming is an issue, then you get 3D display chipsets. The MacBook Pro has such so why isn't that the choice here? You see this same choice in other non-Apple laptops so my confusor is why this is not a simple choice.
