Vista works great

by Goldwinger1984 - 5/10/08 5:07 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

From the beginning it has done what it is is supposed to without fail and has been reliable and fun to use. What more can you ask for.

vista?

by kassi59 - 5/10/08 5:34 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

must be full of first time computer owners!
Vista is a fun toy, for those who play. If you started with XP as I did, and believe me I was like the 'vista lovers', that too was condemned by anyone owning a computer before XP. Well, long story short. I started with XP as an OS and now Im stuck with a ton of software that is not only expensive, but totally useless now.
The extra memory it takes to run the bells and whistles is also an added expense. After toning vista down, I still am left without much computer power. Hindsight if I had just bought extra memory Id be way ahead of the game.
Vista is so full of bloatware for the first time computer owners that for us oldies its like having a room of tinker toys, and unnecessary way to utilize a perfectly good room.

Loving Vista

by bigbobt - 5/10/08 7:23 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I have been the IS/IT for over 20 years. I have seen many OS's come and go and they all have there own little quirks. So now I am a Vista user, all and all it works wonderful for me; then again I have the expertise of several OS's under my belt and I think before taking action. I learned Vista in a week and became quite proficient in tweaking and optimizing it by the end of the second week. I have had no quriks or oddities occur. I purchased a Compaq SR5123WM with an AMD Athalon 64 bit X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ 2100 GHz with 4 Gbytes of ram and two Sata 500 GByte HDD, Sporting the Home Premium of Vista OEM 32 Bits. I runs like a bat out of hell. I highly recommend it. I however do caution users to ad peripherals one at a time after migrating their data over into the environment, as Vista does not like you adding a scanner, printer, web camera and other peripherals all at once. Microsoft has not got there compartmentilization of applications and hardware in the protected operation zones as the claim. But then again they have alsway treated the General Public as their personal testing field. If I had my druthers and the dollars to support it I would be using Mac OSX and run my windows apps from there, but they are two damn pricey and I need at least three machines to get done all that I do. For the price Vista Premium is not a bad deal especial when it comes as part of an OEM package. Vista will prevail and I am sure that it will endure for the long haul. My only hope is that Bill Gates gang get smarter and solve issues before introducing a product which would make the average less knowledgeable individuals happier and increase their market base.

No Problems here

by PiperL4 - 5/10/08 7:45 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I built this computor in December 2007. I desided to use Vista Ultimate 64 bit to take advantage of my 8 gigs of ram. My system has been trouble free loading my new harddrives, new and old DVD burners, and my four year old HP printer. Vesta found and installed all the drivers for all my hardware and installed all my software with no hassel what-so-ever. I even installed a old Jane's WWII Fighters which was made for Windows 95/98 with no problems. If you will just pay attention and not install programs which are known to have issues, which it will tell you I don't think you will have problems. I beleive the key is to make sure that your system is set up to run Vesta and to take advantage of its features.

I love it

by rdnetto - 5/10/08 8:36 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I've had Vista for almost a year now and I haven't had any problems at all with it. I love a lot of the new features and the interface. Having .NET preinstalled is also really useful.

That said, let me point out several things that I noticed:
- its better to let Vista download MS drivers for hardware then it is to try and give it your own, unless there are no MS drivers
-when I got Vista, I completely upgraded my system. It was long overdue anyway, and Vista was a good excuse. However, I would seriously recommend reconsidering Vista on a system that was designed for XP, however new it may be. Fact is, a system designed for XP will very likely not be able to run Vista at full throttle. It is a lot easier to simply buy a new system than it is to get Vista to run on a PC intended to run XP, unless it is a high-end system.

Don't upgrade

by dcwareadmin - 5/10/08 9:20 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

Vista seems to be fine as long as you don't upgrade from XP, otherwise.. it's hell.

XP is obsolete. Vista is here to stay!

by GenXer68 - 5/10/08 9:29 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

Oh yea, I can see why all these people are complaining. It's just no fun anymore that we no longer have to select a certain program just to open a download. Not everyone is a programmer or IT guy and would have any idea of which one to choose. What a pain in the ass XP was! It's ******** like that that made me a Mac user since 1999. Some of these ******** just wont feel important anymore when XP is gone because the Vista system will not require some major ****** fix each month that only an IT guy can perform and get paid for. Microsoft finally has an operating system as simple to use as macOSX! If XP guys are pissed off about this it's because they will no longer be needed. The average home user can now attend to their own computer needs without PAYING someone! Vista is here to stay so get used to it and tough **** to the XP guys! ***** deal with it!

Works fine for my dad

by kid_entropy - 5/10/08 10:24 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

While I'm still rocking Windows 2000 on a T23 my dad bought a toshiba at wal-mart about a year ago with vista. It's been flawless since then. The man still needs to call me every time he needs to attach a file to an email but otherwise it's been great for me!

Vista Home Premium

by zsmi - 5/10/08 10:25 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

My grandchildren and I are using both WindowsXP and Vista Home Premium (Hebrew version) in our home network which includes 5 computers. My grandchildren use WindowsXP because Vista Home Premium seems to be incompatible with their favourite game, the Maple Story.
I like very much Vista Home Premium, especially its' ability to correct and solve problems. I think that Vista Home Premium is a great important step in solving problems which were and are still pestering us in WindowsXP.
All the best

Problem with OS or Hardware.

by Commandoclone87 - 5/10/08 10:32 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

As far as I understand it, all of the problems that I've heard about have resulted from the use of outdated hardware and or software.

I personally have used Vista since the initial release and yes there were a few problems (I had an ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro and the remote control/pvr features were not being supported as "ATI/AMD" decided that it was impratical to provide an update for older hardware).

Since then, I've upgraded to a newer HD2600 Pro w/ a new pc and an HVR-900 from
Hauppauge and Microsoft has even provided working 64-bit drivers for my remote control and as such there has been no more problems.

The point is that Microsoft has finally decided to drop legacy hardware/software compatability and move on to newer technologies. As well most software will run under "XP/98" compatibility modes.

I like Vista better than XP.

by femalegtrst - 5/10/08 10:45 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I like Windows Vista better than XP. My version of Windows XP is on a HP522n computer. It has two major update disks and about 140 updates.

I find everytime I have to reinstall software the system restore restores the original software that came with the machine! That software has all types of bugs in it for a trojan or a worm to invade. Even my anti-virus software could not find all of them.

I find Windows Vista much simpler and much more dependable. It gives me options to update that my current software no longer gives. It also allows the opton to partion into two different opperating systems. If I ran vista I could also use XP on another partition.

I would prefer Vista especially for watching my DVDs or eventually my blu disks.

I am part of the silent Microsoft-tolerating majority.

by geofffeldman - 5/10/08 11:22 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I am part of the silent Microsoft-tolerating majority. I think it is "cool" in some circles to bash Microsoft or almost brag about using a Mac or Linus and Firefox. This time I think the Microsoft bashers are having a field day because Vista is not MS's shining moment. The bottom line on Vista is that it is not enough superior to XP to justify the increased memory and processing demands, the learning curve for users, and the problems with drivers and other bugs and compatibility issues that are inevitable with a new release.

Vista Lover since February

by wrgarrisjr - 5/10/08 11:26 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I have been running Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS 420 pc since February, 2008. I having really enjoyed using it and the only problems is Vista is very picky about older software and you need a hot pc to run it. I only had problems with IE 7 once and a corrupted user profile I caused myself. Reinstalling the operating system is a breeze since Dell includes the install DVD and a image copy is on a disk partition. I would not recommend installing it on older pc unless you have everything you need. I have ran Win 98 SE & Win XP Home and Vista is the best yet.

Silent Vista-loving majority?

by John J. Karmazin - 5/10/08 12:40 PM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

Having to evaluate Vista for clients needing to do budgetary planning, I tried to see how it would work in their environments. The only advantage that I and my clients could see was an improved SOLITAIRE game. Now really, who needs that?
