RegCure

by chapstick1 - 1/29/08 5:27 PM In reply to: It's not free but it's the only complete solution I found by maltadude

Hmm, posted a reply but I can't find it anywhere! Anyway, I used RegCure on my laptop and I was really happy with the results. It sped everything up and the boot time is not a problem anymore (it used to take FOREVER to boot up and I hated turning it off).

Anyway, I know registry cleaners get a lot of flak, but RegCure saved me from having to do a complete re-installation of Windows. For that, it was worth it.

I got RegCure after reading the review at http://www.registrycleanerzone.com/regcure-review.html

Sorry but I have removed your post.

The link was to Windows Live SkyDrive file sharing where you offer a number of your own files for sharing.

Aside from the obvious danger of downloading executable or rar files, (virus infected, etc), I am not at all sure that some of the files you have made available can be legally copied/downloaded. CNET forums take great care in protecting our members where we can, and the risk of downloading files from un-proven sites cannot be understated. In any case file sharing such as P2P and web pages such as yours contravene Forum Policy.

Uniblue registry booster 2009 free scan

by johnjohnson1957 - 11/12/08 12:47 PM In reply to: It's not free but it's the only complete solution I found by maltadude

Uniblue registry booster free scan is a scam. Its zombieware; you just can't kill it.

Today I wasted half the morning trying to remove their free scan software from my system. Their free trial allows you to scan your system but will only allow you to remove/correct 15 items. Afterwards you are continually bugged to buy their their software. Even unclicking the program on your start up menu does not stop it from loading up and scanning everytime you start up your system. Using control panel, then "add or delete programs" would not remove it. I finally had to right click the "Start Button" select explore, then program files and then finally delete the folder containg the program. I still don't know if this garbage is gone for good.

Unless you are committed to buying this program (which I don't think you should based upon their underhanded marketing) don't even think about installing their free scan.

Best Registry Repair: "CLEAN INSTALL" with XP SP3: THE BEST

by denkile - 5/9/08 9:47 PM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

Registry Repair > System Performance

Advanced System Optimizer (ASO) had worked well for me
for two years and I did the System Mechamic trial recently.
Both worked well after experimenting and being very selective
with the elements deployed. I prefer ASO...easier and simpler.

Then did a "clean install" (erase/format HDD
and install OS, drivers, updates, apps, utils...) and
WOW what a difference in performance.
XP SP3 saved downloading the many Windows Updates
and it seemed to improve memory management and filekeeping.
Both registry repairs SLOWED the system from the Clean loading !
So I did another fresh/clean software install and
I am considering going to a disk image backup of the clean loading.

NOTE: XP SP3 without a clean install causes problems !

REGCURE RIPOFF

by wongmr - 8/30/08 4:45 PM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

RegCure is so overrated. I bought 5 keys, used 3 on laptops/desktop. All still run slow/slower. And I have more problems- small windows pop up whenever I boot up; the only way to get rid of them is open Task Manager and end task. And Google Earth won’t open anymore; it worked fine before; now, I can't uninstall it and update it. Tech support sucks too- their "live support" means you have to email them your problem, as they have no telephone service support to walk you through the fix; you have to email back and forth forever, which takes so long, I've given up.

regcure rip-off

by stacymliles - 8/31/08 2:00 AM In reply to: REGCURE RIPOFF by wongmr

If you are having popups then you may want to run a series of adware/malware remover programs.
Try "HITMAN PRO".
It uses a series of familar program that work in chorus to remove ad-ware and other similar parasites.
I also recommend using several other programs as one single cleaning utility will not do the job alone.
Winutilities, Registry Mechanic, Registry Fix, and R-Wipe & Clean, to name a few.
Good Luck.

Sheesh its enough to make my head spin!

by Eanoo - 9/24/08 8:10 AM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

So a registry cleaner does work or doesn't it? I just read a review at http://www.registryscoop.com claiming Regcure was the best. Now I don't know whether to use one or not. I tried Esuing and it seemed to find all kinds of errors but my computer doesn't run any better or worse. It does feel cleaner to me though, like I just gave it a good scrubbing

Head spun on registry cleaners?

by stacymliles - 9/24/08 8:02 PM In reply to: Sheesh its enough to make my head spin! by Eanoo

Yes the registry cleaners will work. But, I advise using more than one on your computer. Registry Fix, Registry Mechanic, R-Wipe And Clean are the ones I use. But,don't stop there. Get a few hard drive cleaners as well and use them in conjunction with one another.
You may want to consider using a different defragmenter also. I use "O&O Defrgramenter". Anything will be better than windows defrag.

Best registry cleaner?

by MorrisonX - 9/28/08 8:31 AM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

Yes you are right. The same situation was with me when I needed the best registry cleaner. I searched in google for that and found ~50 registry cleaners pretending to be the best cleaners :) I tried some of them to verify which one is better. I compared them by number of invalid entries each of them can find. Finally, my chose was Digeus Registry Cleaner (from www.digeus.com). First of all it looked nice, found out lots of invalid entries, and the price is cheaper than most of other cleaners. I bought it and still use after uninstalling games :)) I also noticed that after removing games they leave lots of invalid and not needed entries in registry which I think result in speed reduction of PC.

Registry cleaner

by Cleaning_Dady - 10/8/08 12:17 PM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

Hi,
I have problem with my computer that it reboots all for sudden in the middle of everything. My friend said that I need some registry cleaning up software and advised this one http://registerycleaneronline.com But as I don't know anything about it, so I wonder if anyone tried it or heard anything good or bad about it? But now, as I write, I wonder maybe it’s not a registry cleaning that I need, but there is some other solution to my problem. However, I‘d appreciate some suggestions.

I would not.

by MarkFlax Moderator - 10/8/08 12:28 PM In reply to: Registry cleaner by Cleaning_Dady

I wouldn't use a registry cleaner to solve problems. They may be fine for a bit of tidying up, but they are generally not very good at solving problems. They don't think, they just search the registry for entries that might fit an internal database, or a certain fixed set of instructions, then tell you that the ones they have found need deleting.

More often than not this leads to more problems than you bargained for as critical entries are deleted.

If you could post your question in a different forum, eg Computer Help, Computer Newbies, or Operating System specific forum like Windows XP if that is your OS, then hopefully you will get better help there than in this discussion which is now very long, and quite old.

Be sure to provide as much information as you can, as requested in the Note in red above each post window.

If you use the CNET Forums link just above, you can find the forum you need.

Good luck.

Best registry cleaner

by Braksus - 10/10/08 7:40 PM In reply to: Best registry cleaner? by Marie Boyer

First I would like to tell that there is crowd of windows repair programs available on the market today, free and shareware. But the truth is most of them are dangerous to your PC and can bug it even more. I've used many of it, mostly free ones. And then did complete re-install of Windows since it was locked completely. So my final solution is to use 2-4 programs that proved themselves in most cases. Here is my list of such best registry cleaners:

#1 RegistryEasy
#2 RegistryCure
#3 RegistryMechanic
#4 RegSweep

First 2 programs available at http://repair.repairandsecure.com
.
And you can find other 2 at Download.com do not wish to post multiple links here.

Cheers,
Carl

I don't trust Reg Cure

by tylli - 10/22/08 7:10 PM In reply to: Best registry cleaner by Braksus

I keep getting usolicited pop-ups from Reg Cure, when I least expect them, right in the middle of other things. I installed RegCure about 6 months ago, didn't like the offer, found a better option, and deleted it, totally removing (or so I thought) the RegCure download. But it won't go away! OK maybe I did something wrong (don't think so) but just maybe. Now why, I ask, is RegCure behaving like this??? That's why I don't trust them. When the pop-up comes on, it starts madly scanning my PC, with me not in control, and that makes me mad! Getting rid of it often means switching the computer off, and re-booting.
