Yes, I like Vista

by hepaforsi - 5/8/08 4:19 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I haven't had any real problems with Vista but I only use my computer for managing media, email, simple games and the internet. I've used Windows 98 and then went without a computer for a while so I've never used XP. So, with all that said, I actually like Vista. My father, on the other hand who builds PCs, thinks I'm nuts.

I install Cable Modems

by andrewnc21 - 5/8/08 4:37 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I install cable modems for high speed internet on Vista EVERY day. I owned a PC with XP. Because of my experience with Vista I knew I would never own it. I got a Mac...need I say more. The "majority" cannot possible be satisfied because the majority of Vista owners I encounter are not. It didn't take much to convince me.

What the heck are you using?

by jriske - 5/8/08 5:16 AM In reply to: I install Cable Modems by andrewnc21

What kind of modems are you trying to plug these machines into?

I've reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled the OS, and had a live wireless connection 20 seconds after I got to the desktop. The longest part of the process was typing in the encryption key. And this was before installing any of the two waves of drives updates that have come out in the last year.

I've taken it to work, at a public high school, and had access to everything I needed - except the network printer, since Home Premium won't join a domain - again, in less than 30 seconds. Same at the local community college.

If your having such major problems with Vista installations, start looking at your company's equipment, or, more likely, whatever bloat-ware software package they're trying to foist onto the users as being "absolutely necessary" to connect to the network.

Silent Vista-lovng majority

by jordanpdx - 5/8/08 4:37 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I've had ME,XP and now Vista. I love Vista. The only thing I have had trouble with is System Restore and that could just be me not not understanding how to use it. I was spoiled by ME's system restore, for some reason it seemed more logical. But I've been using Vista since it came out and I love it.

Vista on new Dell computers

by acfalk - 5/8/08 4:37 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

When receiving my new high end Dell, it had Vista and all the garbage loaded on that you get with any new computer. The OS did not function as it should have. I formated the hard drive and reinstalled the OS with the Vista backup disk. Problems solved. Vista runs fine now.

Dell still preinstalls crapware?

by alcedes - 5/8/08 5:05 AM In reply to: Vista on new Dell computers by acfalk

That's strange. I received a couple of computers from dell and the only thing that they had preinstalled other than the OS were some Google apps. I thought they had ceased to preinstall crapware.

It's good

by bruceslog - 5/8/08 4:38 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

When I bought my new Acer laptop last summer, I'd heard all about the Vista issues, so I bought a new copy of WinXP Pro along with the laptop.
Well, the new WinXP is still in a drawer. Haven't opened it yet.
Vista and this laptop get along just fine. Of course I had to give it a little more juice, I replaced the stock 1GB of memory with 4GB of Kingston, which cost me less than $180.00. And now the laptop out performs my desktops with 2.5 GB ram, I mean this laptop really flies !
I really like the newest features in Vista.
I LOVE the fact that when a program crashes, it does NOT take the Vista operating system down with it !
It's about time MS got that one right ! Although both Vista and XP are quite overpriced, as well as over bearing. I don't like MY computer and MY Operating system to tell me what I can or cannot do, hear, copy, burn, or install on MY machine in MY home.
When I'm back on my XP desktop, I miss a lot of the features I've grown used to with Vista.
And now I'm actually kinda torn between which OS I like best, my favorite has been PCLinuxOS for years now.
Yet, I'm really enjoying this Vista as much as I've enjoyed my PCLinuxOS.
Almost.

Loving it?

by Carol2084 - 5/8/08 4:41 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

All I've seen, so far, is "I'm okay with it" or "I've adapted" or "I've learned to live with it". I haven't heard anyone say they LOVE it. I love new technology. I'm not at all resistant to change, if it's exciting and efficient. Vista isn't.

You're not reading well

by bosworth - 5/8/08 6:26 AM In reply to: Loving it? by Carol2084

Okay, I love Vista. I hate Mac (they use it on some machines at the university). I used to love XP but now that Vista is out, I love Vista even more. I would never go back to XP (I actually have to keep using it at work because the university has not converted over to Vista yet - they won't on the machines alreay issued until they are scheduled to be replaced - I have to wait until next year!). Satisfied? Vista is far superior to XP.

Vista incompatibilities

by fdcampbell - 5/8/08 4:47 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

Have installed Vista on a number of my machines. Generally like its features and capabilities. But have reverted these machines back to XP. The unavailability of Vista drivers for my printer (Xerox) made it uneconomic to retain Vista. Microsoft made a mistake it failed to retain (possibly as an option) XP type printer interfaces.

Post 192 of 685

Sounds like Xerox has responsibility in that problem

by alcedes - 5/8/08 5:04 AM In reply to: Vista incompatibilities by fdcampbell

That sounds like more of a problem with Xerox not updating their drivers than with the OS itself. MSFT made the updated drive model available to developers well over a year before Vista was released. It's impossible to improve security while maintaining 100% of the behaviour that the old OS had which is why Xerox should have made appropriate drivers available.

Loving vista WHY???

by FantomWorks1 - 5/8/08 4:49 AM In reply to: Silent Vista-loving majority? by chustar

I have owned vista for almost one year. I hate it as much today as i did the day I fired up my computer for the first time. When XP replaced "Windows" 95, it took me almost a full day to fall in love with XP. I am still waiting for the day that happens with Vista. I think MS and Bill really screwed the pooch on this one.

Yeah, I love Vista...

by mleeber - 5/8/08 4:53 AM In reply to: Yes, i love Vista by nikesh01

Absolutely, Vista is great, nothing else has been able to drive me to a Mac. I have been in IT consulting for over 20 years all on the PC/Micro platform and I finally recognize the right choice...a Mac. Windows NT was the last REAL OS improvement and everything else has been fluff to sell more licenses. I just wish software vendors had a cross platform upgrade program so I could recoup a little of my software investment!
