I love Vista, There were a lot of problems at first, but as the months have gone by, I would not go back to XP if you paid me.
I like the sleep feature, it's great to have your computer up and running in about 30 seconds, not like the old days more like 30 minutes. I honestly don't think all the bad press is justified.
As they say "Dont knock it until You have try'd It"
I upgraded across the board as soon as it came out. I downgraded my laptop back to XP because it didn't have the guts to run Vista well. And I downgraded my Media-Center PC back down to XP Media Center due to the lack of driver support, but my primary PC and my son's have stayed with Vista and we pretty much live in it. We haven't had any issues, but we have the hardware to run it. People who don't like it (my wife) are usually techno-phobes or just resistant to change.
I've been using Vista since its release. First x86 Ultimate on my previous machine, and x64 Home Premium on my current PC.
I have yet to have any hitches with it. Runs everything I want it to, it's stable and I really don't see what all the fuss has been about for a year and a half of bashing it.
I have used it pretty much exclusively since it came out, and recently I had to use an XP machine. I found XP awkward, and I don't like using it at all anymore.
i have encountered only two problems with vista and i am not sure they are the operating system at all. i have worked with vista on my laptop for a year now. i find it to be awesome. only one of my favorite programs will not work on it. the problems i have encountered are a blank white page comes up when i boot up. i am told it is supposed to denote a pirated copy of windows vista. i cannot imagine that as i purchased my laptop from a reputable retail store. when i load photos, it goes to a blue crash dump screen and shuts down. that is getting more frequent as time goes on. i am taking it to the shop this next week. other than those two problems, i love vista. it is truly an awesome operating system. i actually have the best of both worlds as my daughters desktop she just had built has xp so i can enjoy that as well. i am afraid i am the only vista lover in the house with 4 other computers. i like being able to use both operating systems. i think everyone will like vista once all the kinks are ironed out.. if they ever ar.
I've had Vista since January when I bought a new DELL system. I've not had any crashes or technical issues with it. It's been fun learning the new OS.
99 % of users don't even know what an operating system is, and don't care. The OS should not be the end all but just a means of doing something productive on a computer.
Vista is just eye candy.
Vista is finally coming together but the same old game applies. Works good on new PC's but old ones just struggle even a P4 3.0GHz. So if you go Vista expect the next level of security and purchase a newer PC such as a Dual Core with at least 2Gb of RAM. If you shop with Dell you can purchse it with XP and get a free upgrade to Vista. So upgrade! when you're ready, but upgrade.... At least it looks better, gotta give it that. -Winwiz
-Its hard to let things go, but don't get left behind.
Whats not to love.............i meam i was using windows M.E. till last november, i know its bad. Then vista came into my life, ahh, the beauty of it. Every thing works just like it says on the tin, new progs? no prob, new hardware, easy. i love it, love it, love it.
Finnaly i never met XP, so i dont know what all the fuss was about, but if you dont want a relationship with Vista, you better hope xp will take you back!
I love its "double checking" on whether you "really" want to download THAT program, though it is irritating. I also love the fact that I have not had a reboot even once; with 2000 Pro and XP Pro, I could count on a reboot for sure with any 2 hours stint at the keyboard. I also love the fact that it comes with a protect program that can ID and remove malware; I've seen this one work.
I don't like that it won't work with my Adobe 5; I really liked that program.
My reservation concerning Vista were not unfounded... my Wife purchased a laptop with Vista HPE32 and had several problems (May 07). We both agreed that it had to be Vista...'`~~~~~`'POS! As it turned out my home desktop blew a power supply and I lost my entire system in Feb 08. So, systematically I started to rebuild my system; purchasing one piece at a time (if it was onsale). In about a 3 week period in March 08 I had all my pieces but had not made an OS decision. I read a lot of reviews while shopping for hardware and a lot of 'gamers' found Vista to be worth while and loved the product. This was my biggest turning point, if it was good enough for them, I was sold. So I thought the same as Lee mentioned in his email Community Hot Topics, "typical new OS minor issues", and purchased Vista UE32. I'm an avid computer user and builder; so I expect and want a lot from my system. I've been blown away at the features and smoothness of Vista. The Ultimate version has several backup, performance enhancements and flashy features that I enjoy and utilzed on a regular basis... typically I would have to hunt down a purchase a software program that would do some of the same things that's been integrated into Vista. I a hugh fan NOW and have expressed my opinion accordingly... hence this posting!
Since I up the memory to 3.93 G in my Dell dimension E521 vista has work great. Even the Roxio 10 has worked like it is suppose to. Just my 2 cents
I have Vista on two gaming computers and a laptop at home with no issues. Also my workstation at work is Vista - I run engineering apps.
I bought a new desktop computer in August 07 loaded with Vista (64bit) True some of my programs had to be upgraded to work properly but I only see that as a plus ... they too are better now. I love Vista and everthing about it. But I'm not silent on this ... I've been telling everyone!
I have used Vista for over a year now and I love it. In March of last year, my Windows XP computer had seen its last leg so I bought a new computer with Vista Ultimate loaded onto it. I purchased the Vista Ultimate edition because I upgraded my computer requirements due some increased job requirements, I teach advertising at a university and the students' digital media files made me upgrade my home computer environment. The first problem I had was the HP scanner I had now didn't work. This was not surprising because it was an old scanner to begin with. My older HP ink jet printer did have a updated driver and works fine. The only other problem I encountered was one specialized software program, a genealogy program didn't have any Vista driver updates but it worked fine (I have since bought a new version written with Vista). I have to say my overall experience with Vista has been completely positive. It doesn't crash or freeze as often and when it does, you can recover right back to where you were in the program. My DSL connection through Verizon was a breeze to connect, Vista even made all the connections for me intuitively - I didn't need to jump in and input all the server addresses, etc. I suppose my need for a high-end computer has a made a difference for me because that plays to Vista's strength. But I have purchased a laptop for my mother to stay in contact with grandchildren in other states and it only has the Vista Home Edition on it. It also works just fine. I don't know what everyone is talking about when they start trashing Vista, I have had a wonderful experience. It is different and required a learning curve to relearn how to do things in the OS but that is to be expected. And I think that is what most people are complaining about - change. Vista is different from XP. But XP was different from Windows 95 and all the Windows OS's were different from MS-DOS (which was easy to use if you knew all the commands) but I don't think we want to start going backwards.
I've found it trouble-free. It does it's thing in the background (especially with Windows Live OneCare!) and isn't always in your face. Very easy to work with for a non-techie.
