Can I replace wireless mouse if it is part of a set?

by djr1904 - 5/3/08 10:27 AM

I have a Microsoft wireless optical mouse, about 5 years old, part of a set with a Microsoft wireless keyboard. Lately the mouse has been skipping a lot, always about 1/4 of the screen diagonally to the lower left. So I have two questions.

1. I've cleaned the mouse and changed the batteries. Is there anything else I should be trying before I conclude the mouse is just going bad?

2. Assuming it needs to be replaced, can I just buy a new wireless mouse and make it work with my existing keyboard? If so, how is this done?

I ended up with 2 RF dongles. Bluetooth would have mean one or none.
