Canon FS100 Software

by JaminJeff - 4/27/08 11:12 AM In reply to: Further still... by Fastra3000

Leave off the two last letters. It worked for me, but the software sucks in both quality and speed!

Thanks!

So what method are you using to 'back-off' stuff from the memory cards then?

At the moment I'm just copying everything to a directory on my pc and leaving it as it is.
For viewing I just play through WMP, although I'm yet to try writing them to a dvd (again unconverted) to see whether my tv dvd recorder recognises them.

I've tried the SDcopy as mentioned earlier but quicktime still won't see them.

software

by A_Str8 - 4/28/08 5:58 AM In reply to: more... by Fastra3000

the included software works fine for saving files to your hard drive. The movie editing and DVD authoring parts are extremely basic, but they should be fine for simple edits (combining or splitting clips, cropping length) and quick DVD's. If you're trying to do anything more advanced, you're gonna want better software.

HDSC Disk transfer

by JaminJeff - 5/3/08 2:51 PM In reply to: software by A_Str8

Is anyone able to drag and drop the MOD files from a different reader other than the camera? I cannot seen to do it with a lexar multi-media reader. Thanks!

SD

by 97octane - 5/14/08 12:23 PM In reply to: HDSC Disk transfer by JaminJeff

Yes...

I have the Transcend 16 GB cards that came with a little USB reader. very portable, works perfectly.

What I do, is simply pop out the SD Card from the camcorder, plug into USB reader and copy to Hard Drive.

I'd suggest that you download the Microsoft Windows XP Powertoy "OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE" from microsofts website.

With a right click of the mouse, Im at a command prompt (old DOS style). From there, I simply type:

ren *.mod *.mpg

WHat that does is automagically renames all the mod file extensions to .mpg. Almost an instant solution, and ready to review.

Card Reader

by joedmd - 5/14/08 3:05 PM In reply to: HDSC Disk transfer by JaminJeff

My current reader doesn't work so I am buying one very cheap on ebay.
Will let you know how it works when I get it.

BTW - doesn't it take an incredibly long time to tranfer over USB cable? A 40MB clip took over 5 minutes to transfer, not much help from canon other than "close all other programs and/or reboot"

Transfer

by 97octane - 5/15/08 5:04 AM In reply to: Card Reader by joedmd

Not eggzaklteh,

Mine is quite fast. If you transfer via USB directly from the camcorder, using the USB cable cable supplied, its a SLOW process. I have the Canon software, and as such never used it except once. Dont need it.

If your getting really slow USB transfer times, try to use a different USB bank. Sometimes the USB ports located on the front of your computer is only for convenience, and is the older style 1.0 instead of the much faster USB 2.0.

My little pocket Transcend chip reader can fit inside my wallet its so small, and transfers fast in a USB 2.0 slot.

Good luck.

Direct camcorder transfer

That's what I was talking about. There doesn't seem to be a reason why it should take so long. You would think that a $400 camcorder should be able to transfer as fast as a $5 keychain reader.
I think canon's still cameras transfer ok over USB (although I almost always use a reader so I could be wrong)

Could be a UK thing...?

by Fastra3000 - 4/28/08 6:02 AM In reply to: more... by Fastra3000

Just spoke to Canon and they told me to replace the first 3 digits of my serial number with 808 - 'it should work with the wine coloured one', they said!

So, just wait till I get home now.

Problem with wine red and navy blue models

by CoLiungChan - 5/2/08 11:54 AM In reply to: Could be a UK thing...? by Fastra3000

Same thing happened to me and, yes I just replaced the first 3digits with 808 and, I was able to install the program, they say this glitch happens with the navy blue and wine red camcorders.

Sorted..!!

by Fastra3000 - 5/3/08 4:32 AM In reply to: Problem with wine red and navy blue models by CoLiungChan

After emailing Canon and at first being told its not their from and to contact the software supplier (sorry, but if its in your box then it IS your problem), I finally got the correct answer from them.

Just replace the first 2 digits with 80.

I've got a wine coloured one and this worked for me.
QVC, who I bought it from, have even sent me a letter telling of this problem and to use the 808 solution - this didn't work for me - just use the 80.

:)
