Going from a point n shoot to a DSLR, which is better the Peset modes or the Priority modes like SP/AP? I had an old Rebel film camera and when i would go off of the Preset modes like Landscape, Macro, Sport my pictures would be less then desirable. Will this be true in a DSLR?
Same thing applies to DSLRs. There have been many posts that are angry why they spent the money on a DSLR and the pictures looked just the same as their DSLR. Shooting in RAW, post processing, and using manual modes are what will increase the ability of the camera. Using the manual modes also help you become a better photographer as well. Now that you can go to digital, you can shoot to your hearts content without spending a dime. This way you can practice the manual modes until you feel comfortable using them when it counts.
You can take good photos on presets, but then it wasn't really worth it to buy the camera. There are times when the preset will work just fine.
Until you are comfortable with the manual settings, then you can use the P mode. It will at least be able to be shot in RAW so you can recover some shots and it won't be over processed as in the other modes.
