I strongly prefer that format and it's pain when I have to constantly change the view.

Go to Tools > Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Make sure "Remember each folder's view settings" is checked. You might have to scroll down.
Click "Apply to all Folders" button at the top.
Done.

The Free version is much better than Windows Explorer. I have used it for many years. Just noticed that it has been upgraded to V6, need to check changes from the V5 that I am using.
