Sanyo PM 8200...opinions on this phone???

by dd - 11/27/04 5:18 PM

I am trying to decide between this or the Samsung A680. I would prefer to have the speaker phone over the video camera.
I would love to hear some feedback on this phone.
Thanks!!

I am currently in trial period for purchasing this phone. What initially drew me to this model was the camera feature, which I find to be servicible, albiet disappointing. (However, I suspect my disappointment may be due more to naivate and unrealistic expectations as a first time cell phone shopper.) Surprisingly, I found that the speakerphone feature is now a feature that surpasses a camera feature in importance. (This is a phone first, camera second.) Like the other features of this phone, I find the ease of use and clarity are terrific. (Granted, these features were tested under optimal conditions, but it shows to me what the phone is capable of doing if the service provider cooperates.) Bottom line: I think this is a nifty phone and plan on purchasing it.

By now I'm sure you've made you decision on whether or not to keep your Sanyo. How did you rule? I just picked one up Dec. 8th after about 6 mos. on-going head to head comparisons via www.phonescoop.com. I can't get over the excellent feature set of this phone. I found the camera to be its weakest point which speaks volumes because I actually like its camera. For VGA quality, its pretty good. You and I are on the same page about the importance of its speakerphone. Despite the fact that bluetooth phones are becoming more commonplace, I get the impression it's not quite a reliable technology yet. I had no problem returning a Motorola v551, a very good phone back to Best Buy in order to pickup a PM-8200. I'll take a speakerphone over a bluetooth phone any day. That may change in the future but not for now. Also, I've never run across a phone who's menus are so intuitive. It's like the phone navigates me instead. I can't say that about any other brand and I've had four different manufacturer's phones. I can't imagine a better phone to kick off your cell phone experience with. Good luck.

Texting using Voice Instead?

Solution: If Motorola merged with Dragon Naturally Speaking, then we could dictate text messages over our cell phones. The messages could be played back by the recipient. All at ONE CLICK OF A BUTTON.
