Which laptop is best for me????

by Macleef - 4/20/08 1:40 PM

I want a laptop that can play games like CoD4, all NFS and The Sims 2 and GTA4 (with any settings, resolutions, etc.), can handle multitasking, has agn card, has bluetooth, good build (I want a laptop that will last for 4 years), lightweight (but I think I handle a laptop less than 6lbs) and a laptop that has the least problems.

1. ASUS F8SN-B1
http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=F8SN-B1

--- interested because it has 2 year warranty, 1 year accidental warranty, nVIDIA 9500 GS, T8100, agn card, bluetooth and 3GB RAM for less than $1200 w/o tax (USD)
---downfalls; low battery life (only 6 cell, cannot upgrade to 9 cell because not designed to handle more than 6 cell), a bit heavy (5.6lbs - will be taking this to campus and don't want to hurt my back  ), don't know if the warranty is international and if there is a nearby certified Asus repair shop in Toronto

2. VAIO VGN-SZ750N/C

--- interested because it's only around 4lbs (easy to carry), T8100, agn card, bluetooth dual graphics card (integrated and dedicated) and battery life is much better compared to Asus with a standard 6 cell
--- downfalls; only 1 year manufacturer warranty, expensive (approx. $1900 USD), it has a random antenna sticking out and I've read reviews that Sony has bad customer service

--------------

3. Toshiba U305-S2816
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/5474829?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

--- interested because it's light, cheap (approx. $1200 USD), has the following; T8100, agn card, bluetooth and battery life is 3 to 4 hours (with standard 6 cell)
--- downfalls; only 1 year manufacturer warranty, flex keyboard and only X3100 integrated card (not sure if I can play all The Sims 2 games, CoD4, all the NFS games and (soon to be) GTA 4 with this laptop)

Why "agn"?

I can share it's been over 2 years since I've found an 802.11a network. Maybe you can live with b, g and n?

Why n "draft"?

I thought 802.11n was past the draft models?

Also, what country? Here in the USA the Asus support is spotty.

anyone suggest which laptop I should purchase ?

OK, maybe the Toshiba is the last choice?

With it's x3100 GMA video it's not going to be for the gamers.

The Sony is OK at games but the Asus wins with the best video solution.
I still would not buy the no-name Asus due to service issues in the NA.

Which laptop has the least problem?

Sony customer service is not any better too...they will try to charge you money even if you have warranty...

So...what I'm looking for is a laptop that has a good build (durable, reliable, etc.) and with the least problem...

In your case proper.

Since you didn't get the unit in your country you'll be hit with many surcharges. I see that happen a lot so no surprise here. Yes, I lived in Richmond BC for many years so I know this.

Some of things you are looking for contradict each other.

You want a laptop powerfull enough to play certain games well some game require discrete graphics. Discrete gaphics cards use more power which equals less battery time. ASUS makes probably the best gaming machine in the G1. But the cost is around 2000 and the battery life isn't a plus feature of the machine.
